tiggmtl (4181), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada Nov 10, 2005 Updated: Nov 13, 2005 Lychee, toffee, grapefruit, orange, pine, resin, caramel, lemon, pepper, vanilla aromas... something new with each sniff but all go together very well and despite the obvious hoppiness of the nose, no particular characteristic is dominant. Opaque amber-brown body is topped with a large, off white, fine bubbled head that recedes slowly to a lasting cover with plenty of intricate lacework. Lychee, pear, apricot fruit esters, caramelized strong, sweet malts and leafy, resinous, citrus-grapefruit hops amuse the tongue. Strong bitterness is very well balanced by incredible, thick, malty sweetness. Lively carbonation awakens the tastebuds. Full body is fairly dry in character despite obvious sweetness. Fair alcohol warming though alcohol is never apparent in flavour or nose. Bottle (marked #147 but no year apparent although I assume 2004 or 2005, trade, May-05) savoured with MartinT and Olivier_MTL. Thanks, DarkElf!!!
dwyerpg (2062), Las Vegas, Nevada, USA Sep 5, 2008 Really, the only thing that isn’t that good on this is the aroma. Little floral or citrus, mostly it just smells strong. The flavor however is all that is great about San Diego/SoCal IPAs. Very hoppy, crisp and tasty. Love it. maniac (1976), Richmond, Virginia, USA Aug 31, 2008 On tap at Lost Abbey before RBSG on 08/02/2008. Slightly hazy orange amber body with a small creamy off-white head. Big floral and citrus hop aroma. Big citrus and resiny hop flavor, very fresh. Medium body with moderate carbonation. gnoff (2580), Göteborg, Sweden Aug 27, 2008 (Bottle at Oliver Twist, Stockholm) On August 23, 2008 Cloudy dark brown color, white head. Sweet malty and hoppy scent. Sweet and bitter hoppy taste. Medium to smooth mouthfeel, high bitterness. kosko20 (87), Bemidji, Minnesota, USA Aug 25, 2008 Beautiful smell, hops in every variety, citrus, pine, spices, and fruit. Appearance, dark ruby copper golden gorgeous. Nice white head. Flavor: pine hops and spicy hops. Palate is also full bodied and very bitter, dry bitter. Great beer. I do love hops a lot and this shows off some good ones but also almost over does it on the finish. amish_caravan (209), Winona, Minnesota, USA Aug 22, 2008 scent is full of floral hops. taste is very hoppy and has some alcohol taste as well. alcohol is still pretty well hidden given the fact that it is 10.5%. finish is smooth. I would purchase this again.
