draft at pizza port carlsbad - comes hazy dark gold with thin white head; plenty of lacing going down; wow, some of the thickest and strongest hop aromas I can remember; fruity, sweet and a little harsh; drinks sticky, sweet, bitter and very dry; a bitter bomb for sure and just a tad too much for my tastes

Excellent IIPA from pizza port. Pours a hazy orange/gold with sticky white head. Grapefruit, tropical fruit (papaya, mango, pineapple), sweet pine, caramel malt, spice, pepper, and bitter floral hops. Damn this is good stuff.

(snifter at Papago’s) Nice amber color with small tan head. Aroma is surprisinglly subtle. Then you take a sip - POW, a ton of citrus hops right in the kisser. Fabulous Imperial IPA.

From draft. Pours a slightly hazyhoney gold with a huge serving of foamy white head. Huge high alpha hop aroma - fantastic, dripping with white grapefruit and concentrated spruce sap. The aroma is incredibly powerful and intoxicatingly fresh. The weight of the body is a bit of a shock after being tantalized by the nose. Its a bit on the heavy and sweet side, which seems to hide some of the desired bitterness behind the somewhat sweet malt backing. Still, the spruce sap and white grapefruit zest hop characters come through satisfyingly and the added touch of floral honey that comes through at the end is quite nice. I find myself wanting it to be a bit dryer with more bitterness after being tantalized by the intense nose, but its still quite nice nonetheless.

Sampled at 4th Boulder Strong Ale Fest. Beer poured a clear light amber color with a small, frothy, off-white, fully and quickly diminishing head.
The aroma was malty with trace notes of toasted grain; hoppy with heavy notes of herbs, lemon, grass, grapefruit, resin/pine; trace miscellaneous notes of peach, vanilla and light notes of honey and oak.
The flavor was moderately sweet, harshly bitter with a long, moderately-to-heavily, unpleasantly grippy bitter finish. Retros of varnish.
The body was medium-to-full, the texture was velvety and the carbonation was lively. The harsh bitterness in the finish combined with the thick palate gave the overall mouth experience a clingy, yucky net.

Draught @ Lupulin Slam III: Pours to a clear medium amber body with a small beige colored head that recedes to a nice thin covering. The aroma is intense grapefruit, pine, showing very fresh hop notes, some nectarine, almost sweet fruit-like qualities. The taste is bitter, very fresh grapefruit, sea salt, pine, light fruits, along with just a hint of butter that blends into the taste well. Medium-full bodied, moderately carbonated.

1/25/08 On-tap @ PP C’Bad. Came in a pint glass with a nice sticky frothy white head on it. Looks a dark yellow almost orange color. Smells of straight up smells of hops. Piney and citrusy and hoppy. This is the hoppiest beer that I have ever had. Well, I guess as far as the citrusy, piney, still bitter and not the least bit sweet, type of hoppiness. Not the almost sickly sweet hoppiness of say, 120 Min. Palate is thick and hop syrupy but still smooth. Bitter, with great carbonation. Awesome hoppy beer. But it would probably kill your tongue after a couple.

Update 9/19/08 on-tap at PP C’Bad. Pours slight hazy orange/amber with a moderate white head, spider web lace. Smells dank , dark and grassy hoppy. Tastes the same plus bitter! Dank grassy hops with some dark citrus and lots of bitterness. Slight caramel sweetness under all that bitterness. Full body, good carbonation. 838317=3.9
