Draft. A pitch black beer with a brown head. The aroma has notes of alcohol, chocolate, roasted malt, and coffee. The flavor is swet with strong notes of chocolate combined with medium notes of malt, coffee, wood, and soy sauce, as well as lighter notes of hops and citrus fruits. The alcohol tickles the palate.

This beer is the bomb. Pours black with a thin brown hed that leaves some lace. Smells.dark and roasty with some sweetness and dark bitter chocolate. Tastes dark and sweet roasty, chocolate sweetness. A hint of dishwater but too many other flavors going on to care. Thivk, full body, good carbonation.

Filthy black roasted coffee head. Aroma is dry chocolate, roasted malt, and very subtle raisin or dried dark fruit. Flavor is straightforward roasty malt, chocolate, some balanced hop bitterness toward the finish, and some tang from the 10 percent. Flavor profile is tighter than Nightrider. Well done.

GABF 2010, Great flavor & aroma. a little light in the body. BIG roasty & chocolate flavor & aroma. Tan head with oily body. Tons of flavor but too light in body & mouthfeel. Still a great beer

Tap at PP/SC. Poured a deep brown to black with a menacing brown head that leaves very good lace. Aroma is smoky, meaty, vanilla. Taste is sweet, dark fruits up front, raisins, with spicy alcohol, lots of dark chocolate bitterness. Body is a little chalky.

On tap at Pizza Port San Clemente. Pours black with very dark brown head. Aromas of tons of roasted malts, tons of chocolate, bit of coffee, and some hops. Flavor of roasted malts, cocoa, bit of coffee, some vanilla, and some faint hops. Finishes very dry and roasty. This is an extremely good stout, but the BA version I had at DLD blew this away.

Sampled at GABF! Definitely one of the better brews of the night. Liquid coal pour with a 1/4 inch cocoa colored head that left sticky lacing inside the glass. Aroma has loads of dark bitter chocolate, roasted malt, vanilla, and toffee. Flavor is equally solid with coffee, cocoa powder, and caramel chews showing themselves. Nice creamy, full-bodied texture. Yum.

With all of the decorations to the display name stating how much a taster costs, how there are no samples, no growlers, no pitchers, I assumed it was going to be epic. it was ok. little chocolate, pretty sweet and raisin laced. mediocre.

UPDATED: SEP 30, 2010 Sample at the brewpub. The beer pours black with a thick brown head that recedes slowly. Large patches of lacing on the glass. Big chocolatey aroma with vanilla and coffee notes. Rather full body with flavors of bittersweet chocolate, coffee and caramel malt. The finish is reminiscent of an iced mocha. Pretty good all around.

Tasted at the 13th Annual Strong Ale Fest on 12/4/2009. This Imperial Stout pours a dark black color from the tap. Small to medium sized tan foamy head. The aroma is chocolate, coffee, cherries and some bourbon. A full bodied Russian Imperial Stout. The malts are chocolate and coffee with a touch of wood and bourbon. The hops are earthy and herbal. Nice balance. Decent carbonation. The chocolate flavors really dominate in this beer, but they mix well with the bourbon flavors. Hides the 10% alcohol very well. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly bitter.
