Tap at 2009 DLD (listed as Infamous Chocolate Imperial): Black with creamy beige head and clingy lace. The aroma has notes of chocolate and vanilla, ashy malt, some coffee and hop bitters, anise and clove, and a hint of mint. The taste is rather expected, sweet dark malts balanced by hop bitterness supported by light coffee and spice notes. The finish is ashy and a tad metallic as well, the weak spot of the brew IMO. The mouth feel is lush and sticky, some alcohol warming noted upon the ending. Overall, a very nice Imperial stout, good balance and not too sweet.

Pawola22 (3262) - Woodridge, Illinois, USA - MAY 23, 2009
On tap at the brewpub in San Clemente. Pours a black body with a thick, dark chocolate brown head that dissipates slowly and leaves a dark, runny lacing. Silky aroma of rich chocolate and mild roasts. Some molasses, vanilla, dark fruits, licorice, and light floral hops. Very delicate smelling. Flavor is also delicate, but pretty robust at the same time. Lots of rich malts with bittersweet chocolate and light roasts. Some citrusy hops and dark fruits as well as vanilla and molasses. Finishes sweet and dry with a long lingering flavor. Palate is silky and delicate in a medium body. Overall, a big flavored, but obviously well handled beer. Nice balance and very tasty.

Sample from tap at San Clemente. Thick foamy head reminiscent of nitro, but it was served on CO2. Black color. Medium to thick body. Chocolatey, malty, little to no roastiness. Light sweetness, but finishes dry. Very easy to drink. Alcohol very well hidden. Wow. Excellent! Get a growler while you can!

Draught at Boulder Strong Ale Festival. Pours opaque with an average, frothy, dark brown head, lasting with good lacing. Aroma is heavy malt (coffee, chocolate, toffee, roasted grain), light hops (perfume), average yeast (leather) with notes of smoke, raisins, and prune. Full bodied, creamy texture, lively carbonation, and spicy-dry finish. Long duration, light sweetness, heavy acidity and bitterness.

Crosling (1863) - Loveland, Colorado, USA - MAR 3, 2009
Draught, Boulder Strong Ale Festival. Super dark black color with dark tan foam. Aroma showcases burnt dark fruit, molasses, chocolate. Flavor is tremendously big, complex, with a lot of malt. Char, coffee, chocolate, along with a big dose of piney, resinous hops. This just worked.

UPDATED: MAR 31, 2009 Draft. Dense chocolate brown body, firm foamy medium brown head. Creamed chocolate cocoa and mocha nose, touch of dairy. Rich, hugely creamy, wonderfully smooth. Lingering cream note throughout, cocoa powder and coconut. Nice.

Crushed with Jakebra at BSAF. Coffee and chocolate is such a nice combination, especially when itís then combined with beer. Both are on display in this one. Not incredible, but definitely excellent.
