From tap at the San Clemente brewpub. Pours dark brown with a small tan head. Smooth roasted and malty flavoured. Acidic and hoppy base flavoured with a solid hoppy presence. Bitter and quite acidic flavoured finish. Smooth and yet with a bite.

Tulip off tap at PP San Clemente. Beautiful pour with a large creamy dark brown head that clings to the glass over a pitch black body. Head lasts for the duration and leaves great lace. When swirled the body also coats the glass with a rich brownness. Aroma of vanilla, coffee beans, and awesomeness. Some hops too. Taste is lots of coffee and sweet chocolate, leather and rich with light hops. Keeps getting more and more complex as it warms with chocolate, leather and dust. It reminds me strongly of Great Divide Yeti, but I think this is better!

Draught at the brewpub. Black with a tan head. Lots of roasted malt and coffee in the aroma with some burnt bread and crust. Hoppy and bitter flavor with espresso, dark chocolate and malty caramel sweetness. The finish is surprisingly dry and bitter as well. Medium-full body with lower carbonation. Really nice impy with a great dark chocolate finish that doesn’t leave any sticky malt coating your mouth.

Tap at 2009 DLD (listed as Infamous Chocolate Imperial): Black with creamy beige head and clingy lace. The aroma has notes of chocolate and vanilla, ashy malt, some coffee and hop bitters, anise and clove, and a hint of mint. The taste is rather expected, sweet dark malts balanced by hop bitterness supported by light coffee and spice notes. The finish is ashy and a tad metallic as well, the weak spot of the brew IMO. The mouth feel is lush and sticky, some alcohol warming noted upon the ending. Overall, a very nice Imperial stout, good balance and not too sweet.

Black with a creamy tan head. Sweet chocolate aroma. Chocolate coffee and cereal grain taste with a nice roastiness throughout.

Pawola22 (3262) - Woodridge, Illinois, USA - MAY 23, 2009
On tap at the brewpub in San Clemente. Pours a black body with a thick, dark chocolate brown head that dissipates slowly and leaves a dark, runny lacing. Silky aroma of rich chocolate and mild roasts. Some molasses, vanilla, dark fruits, licorice, and light floral hops. Very delicate smelling. Flavor is also delicate, but pretty robust at the same time. Lots of rich malts with bittersweet chocolate and light roasts. Some citrusy hops and dark fruits as well as vanilla and molasses. Finishes sweet and dry with a long lingering flavor. Palate is silky and delicate in a medium body. Overall, a big flavored, but obviously well handled beer. Nice balance and very tasty.

Vac (2445) - San Diego, California, USA - MAR 21, 2009
Pours with a black body topped by a thick head with lots of lacing. It’s bitter sweet with notes of chocolate, a hint of coffee and a strong hop profile. Full bodied, warming and highly carbonated.

Sample from tap at San Clemente. Thick foamy head reminiscent of nitro, but it was served on CO2. Black color. Medium to thick body. Chocolatey, malty, little to no roastiness. Light sweetness, but finishes dry. Very easy to drink. Alcohol very well hidden. Wow. Excellent! Get a growler while you can!
