Boulder Strong Ale Fest. Clear reddish brown appearance with a light brown head. Piney, slightly spruce-like/organic hoppy, roasty, dark malty aroma. Minty, piney/spruce-like, roasty dark chocolate malty flavor. Almost like an Andes mint.

Tap at Solana Beach location. Oh yes, hoppy smoked stout. Powerful sheets of complete tan lace above a clear mahogany to blood ruby pour. Nose is sweet with mild olives moving to muted, excellent smoked malt. Taste is resinous, bitter, with excellently integrated meaty bacon smoke character. Delicious. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

On tap @ PP Solana Beach. Black pour with a frothy tan head which leaves sheets of lacing down the sides of the glass. Aroma is chocolate, roast, coffee, supporting hop bitterness, and a soft, dry malt backbone. Taste is bitter chocolate/coffee with roast, perhaps some oat, pine, and a bit of alcohol heat. Even and creamy mouthfeel with a precise flavor profile. Very well done imperial stout with a sharp hop bitterness and chocolate roast character.

On tap at the brewpub. Pours with a clear, near black body with a thick tan head, great lace and retention. Aromas are rich roast, chocolate, dry, cocoa, coffee, fudge, licorice, light fruit and pine. Flavors are quite bitter, rich, lightly nutty with a dry roast character. Fudge. Pretty dry, hoppy and roasty. ABV is well hidden.

Poured hazy brownish black with off white head, aroma had notes of toffee, pine, grass, some roast, dark fruit, touch of chocolate in there as well. Taste and body resembled a black IPA or hoppy porter, the designation as an imperial stout threw me a bit, but nonetheless a pine, grass beginning led into roast, coffee and chocolate, hints of sweet dark fruit and toffee finished fairly bitter and dry.

On tap at GABF. Pours a pure black color with a medium tan head. The aroma is bitter dark chocolate and hops, some caramel. The flavor is very nice; a rich dark roast with some bitter hops, light pine. A little bit of chocolate. A nice Black IPA or hoppy stout.

On tap at Pizza Port (Carlsbad) with Andy, James and Dallas for Dallas’ bachelor weekend. Black pour with a light caramel head. Faint aroma of chocolate, but not a ton else on the nose. Palate is very hoppy and body is light to medium with crispness and high carbonation. Easily drinkable and refreshing.
