awaisanen (1135), Irvine, California, USA Mar 27, 2006 Updated: May 7, 2007 From a 750mL Bottle. Reddish caramel, mahongany colored pour with a healthy finger of fine bubbled off-white head and some hazy yeast. Crisp, powerful aroma of an abundance of sour cherries, complete with a woody pittiness. Not really balsamic-y, the sour characters are much more on the clean and bright end of the style spectrum. A perfectly balanced vanilla-oakiness softens it up just a touch, rounding out the complex, clean, and bright bouquet wonderfully. Light bodied, crisply carbonated mouthfeel. The crisp and bright mouthfeel is the perfect compliment for the tart, acidic flavors. Loads of ripened cherry flavors and freshly squeezed raspberry juice blend nicely with an earthy woodiness and seed-like dryness. A hint of sour tangerine and oaky vanilla also add a great complexity. Some soft caramels dance in the background with a gentle peppery spice. Awesome brew, and seems to be drinking marvelously right now.
fiver29 (303), Strongsville, Ohio, USA Aug 23, 2008 Tasted at Cleveland tasting on 8-23-08. Thanks!! Bottle pours cloudy amber in color with a off white head. Has a nice woody aroma. I am sensing almost cork like aromas. I also get some citrus on the nose as well. Taste is amazing on this brew. It is a sharp up front wood and oak flavor, followed by cherry flavor. The finish in a blend of the two. These flavors are very pronounced and you can’t mistake the wood and cherry flavors from each other. Overall a fantastic brew. JMFG (1117), Florida, USA Aug 22, 2008 Sampled at RBSG, courtesy cquiroga. Slightly cloudy amber color, light tan head. Pungent fruity aroma, oak and licorice, very light funk. The taste had much more of a funk component to it than the aroma. Thick malt base over oaky funk and sour fruitiness. A nice complex sour. illidurit (393), Santa Cruz, California, USA Aug 7, 2008 Huge thanks to cquiroga for sharing this 05 bottle at the RBSG 08 Grand Tasting. Pours a hazy orangish brown color with ample white head coating the glass. Sour acetic nose, black cherries. Flavor is sharp acetic acid that melts into a tart cherry note. Plenty of woodiness too. Another great Pizza Port sour. mgumby10 (1624), West Palm Beach, Florida, USA Aug 5, 2008 Huge thanks to cquiroga for popping open this rarity. Thanks Chris! Pours a dark orange brown with a pretty foamy off white head. Great looking. The flavor is pretty tart, lots of sweet little citrus fruits in there, along with maybe a touch of oak in there as well. Finishes with a mildly acidic sweetness on the lips. Well balanced for a sour, and full on flavor. Certainly did not disappoint over here. Very nice. gunhaver (610), Tampa, Florida, USA Aug 5, 2008 ~RBSG ’08~
Bottle at Grand Tasting. Cloudy mango caramel color, lots of frothy white head, plenty of lacing as well. Tart nose, funky, vanilla, citrus. Very sour flavor but tasty. Some acidic vinegar notes. Nice. Finish is bitter and body is mellow. Really enjoyed it.
