On tap @ the San Diego Strong Ale Fest. On cask. Poured a cloudy amber/orange color with a small off white head. Aromas and tastes of pines, citrus (oranges) and more hops. Lightly sweet with a nice bitter balance.

This beer was the highlight of the Pizza Port Strong Ale Fest for me. It pours with a slightly cloudy golden body topped by a medium thick head with a good amount of lacing. The aroma is just amazing. Itís slightly sweet but mostly bitter, piney and grapefruity. I love it. The flavor is slightly sweet yet mostly bitter with great piney notes and a great grapefruit note. Medium to full bodied and smooth with a touch of dryness.

Cask at PP Strong Ale fest 04. Golden color, very hoppy nose of course. A well balanced double ipa with good malt presence. This was mentioned by many that I talked to at the festival as one of their favs; I agree. Hope to encounter again some time.

On cask at the PP Strong Ale fest 2004. All sorts of hoppy, orange, grapefruit, citrus flavors going on, but backed up w/ sweetness that nicely balances the hops.

(Cask Draft: 2004 Strong Ale Festival, Pizza Port in Carlsbad, CA. Day 1, Beer 8) The big, sweet, orange and grapefruit hops aroma is awesome! And the flavor is also very much dominated by fresh, moderate grapefruit hoppiness, but in part because this isnít very malty double IPA at all. But itís a flavorful hoppiness, but really not all that bitter. Itís also pleasantly sweet, and goes nicely with the hoppiness. The finish might be a bit light on the palate, but the moderate hoppiness finishes clean, not allowing the sweetness to become at all cloying. But the palate is really smooth and easy drinking. Light amber, kind of golden in color, hard to tell with the lighting. Off-white head is large on the pour and retains a good size layer until the beer is gone and the glass is rinsed. Some chunks of lace stick to the glass. I really like the sweet grapefruit flavor and nose. Very nice. Look forward to this one again.

Cask version @ Stong Ale Fest 2004. Easy drinking golden brew sitting under a tightly packed white head. Nose is just a hop onslaught. Nice herbal bitterness ending with a very dry finish. Hope this one makes a regular appearance at the Ports from now on.
