TChrome (1256), Bedford, Texas, USA Nov 9, 2005 Beer pours golden color with a well retained egg white colored head. Aroma consist of a fairly restrained fresh flower aroma, a nod of hops, and a heaping helping of yeast. Flavor is significantly tilted towards yeastiness, some hop bitterness and flower petals. Smooth mouth feel. Nice belgian ale. Pizza Port rocks!!! Storm (2685), Amager, Denmark Oct 13, 2005 On tap from the brewpub. Tasted during trip to California. Golden clear colour. Aroma of some wood maybe also hints of whiskey. Nice taste but compare to a real belgien ale theres a big diffirent between this beer and a original begium beer. Overall, not a bad beer. DarkElf (2681), La Jolla, California, USA Sep 3, 2005 (Draft: Pizza Port in Solana Beach, CA) Hmm, there’s no question about the Belgian notes in this beer, clove and Belgian yeasts mainly, but the thing I notice most is the bitterness in the finish. It’s really a counterpoint to the sweetness, but it’s a bit harsh to me. A fair amount of alcohol also has presence, but it’s not overwhelming. Medium bodied, but there is enough sweetness in this beer that the palate remains pretty substantial right through to the finish. The bitterness in the finish doesn’t really cut into the sweetness too much, but the beer does finish crisper than it would normally. It pours a hazy golden color, with just the occasional tiny carbonation bubble rising slowly through the beer. The white head is small when poured, and settles to a thin filmly layer. This is a very flavorful Belgian Golden, but I would like it a whole lot more if the bitter finish mellowed out a bit. FoolishMortal (949), San Diego, California, USA Sep 2, 2005 Faded gold color with a loarge rocky white head. Belgian yeast ester spiciness, with some fruitiness in the aroma. Rounded maltiness complemented by banana, apricot, and coriander characters. Rather astringent in the finish with a pleasing dryness. Mouthfeel is medium light and fairly dry. papajohn (997), San Diego (Mira Mesa), California, USA Aug 13, 2005 Updated: Jan 8, 2006Pint on tap@Port Solana: Bright, clear golden color with a small (bar pour) fast fading off white head. Aroma of banana and a hint of mint leaf. Flavor starts with some banana followed by honey then pepper spicyness and a sweet fruity finish. Light, sticky, creamy palate.
