johnyvt (157), West Hollywood, California, USA Apr 10, 2005 Nice tan head on the black beer. Really smells like a brewery, lots of fresh malt. Roasty malt flavor. A bit thin (seems to be a trend with some of the pizza port beers I’ve been trying).
Ungstrup (11713), Frederiksberg, Denmark Jun 3, 2005 [At GABF 2004] A red-brown beer with a collapsing orange head. The aroma is very sweet roasted with notes of chocolate. The flavor is somewhat sour - is it because of the low alcohol content? but it has a nice roastyness and a dry woody end. Jeppe (2636), Ølbutikken, Denmark Oct 1, 2004 Draught at Pizza Port (Carlsbad), California.<br />Fine creamy long lasting light tan head, black body. Mild roasted malty, flowery and grassy aroma. Roasted malt in the flavor as well with smoke tones. A typical Irish stout! DarkElf (2681), La Jolla, California, USA Jun 8, 2004 (Nitro draft: Pizza Port in Carlsbad, CA) The expected dry and dark roasted flavor is certainly here, though the dark roasted flavor is fairly moderate; Bitterness is less intense than expected, but given the moderate dark roasted flavor, less bitter seems right in line; Fairly light palate for the style as well, but still with a medium body; The nose is Irish Stout all the way -- dry and dark roasted; The color isn’t black and opaque, but rather a very deep, deep ruddy brown; Creamy tan head with excellent retention as expected from a nitro tap; Head is not as thick as Guinness (can’t draw in it!), but it leaves a nice blanket of lacing unclebleen (620), California, USA May 9, 2004 Pours a bark brown color that can be seen through when held to a bright light. The medium head is a light tan color with good lacing. Aroma is very, very roasted and malty. Flavor is mainly roasted malt with some nice nuttiness involved. Body is very watery.
