Bottle: The aroma consists of chocolate, roasted malt, grain, caramel, and vanilla. It pours a dark brown with some red highlights along the outer edges of the glass. It has a small beige head that leaves behind some spotty lacing. The flavor starts with chocolate, caramel, and faint vanilla. Moderate roasted malt in the middle. It finishes roasted coffee, piny hops, fruit,and a hint of alcohol. Alcohol increases as it warms and becomes a little too hot. Medium bodied with a slightly oily mouthfeel.

Aug 29, 2008 Draft... RBSG ‘08... Pitch black with a small, creamy, light brown head. Great retention. Molasses, espresso and dark chocolate dominate the nose. Full-bodied with a mildly creamy mouthfeel and tingly carbonation. Intense, burnt, bitter flavor. Decent chocolate malt sweetness alongside notes of charcoal, tobacco and incredible bitterness. Charred, bitter finish.

Aug 18, 2008 Draft @ Carlsbad. Pours black with thick tan head. Huge coffee and chocolate aroma. Roasted malt also present. Medium mouthfeel.

Aug 16, 2008 RBSG 2008. Poured from the Hoff tap. Black with a smooth khaki head. Very roasty coffee nose, slightly burnt flavors coming through. Warm burnt chocolate up front, soft cherry notes towards the finish. Still a bit boozy which seemed to break up the smoothness of the palate.

Aug 13, 2008 Draft. Black beer with a tan head. Rich malt aroma with a bit of coffee. Rich malt flavor with chocolate, roast, and big citrusy hops. Medium bodied. Lingering bitterness with roast, caramel, and chocolate. A lot going on.

Aug 6, 2008 From tap at Carlsbad. Pours pitch black with a lacing tan head. Coffee and hardroasted malt aroma. Light chocolate note too. Flavour follows this with a nice chocolate malty base flavour. Lingering hoppy and roasted malt flavour into a dry and slight spiced finish.
