3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Tap @ Mikkeller Bar, Cph.
Pours opaque black with a small, creamy, light-brown film head. Aroma has liqourice, fat roasted malts, light vanilla and cocoa. Mild vinious, quite a bit of raisins. Low carbonation, fine dry and grainy mouthfeel. Flavour is far better balanced than the aroma, soft roasted, lots of chocolate, grainy cocoa, light plums and raisins. Soft viniousness. Lingering roasted malty bitterness.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
On tap @ PP Ocean Beach: Poured a dark black liquid and was topped with a very thing layer of head. Aroma is too hard for me to smell but I was ABLE to get a tiny whiff of roasted malts. The flavor was rich and robust with dark roasted down malts that suggest coffee and chocolate. Delicious American stout that goes down right and has finally started to give me a buzz even though I was on my third pint (the other beers were weaklings).

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Keg at CP&K, London. Dark in hue with a light brown head. Roast is a dominant presence on both nose and tongue, but eventually other elements shine through. Coffee is also plentiful and cola, treacle and hint of vanilla add to the complexity. The mouthfeel is thick but not heavy, making this beer surprisingly easily to drink. I sometimes struggle with stouts when coffee and roast are too abundant, but they make for a tasty concoction here.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
On tap at Pizza Port Ocean Beach; July 2012
The beer arrives from the tap with a lightly browned, dark tan head. The beer is a concentrated brown tinged, mostly black color. The aroma has a burnt fruitiness to it, as well as a solid, smooth, roasted grain character. This last leans towards a roasted nutty note after a short while, and the more I dig in, the more this gets focused on the roasted character that leans towards cocoa and a touch of roasted coffee.
Smooth toasting and roasted up front, this picks up some carbonic bite, and a burnt tartness that adds some liveliness to the middle. The finish is bitter with roasted malt notes as well as with hop character. Fairly smooth, but it has enough of a burnt, roasted edge to it to sharpen things up; this is amply flavored, and a sipping brew due to the big malt character. While this has a medium’ish body to it, I don’t feel that its overly heavy, this is definitely something to drink by the pint, even if that might be a little dangerous. The roast character is ample, but can’t hide a big, roasted prune like character that is also easily tasted, after I notice it.
This is a nice Stout; it has definitely hit the spot and my cravings for a Stout to finish off my stay here. This is definitely a roast dominated brew, it is fairly focused in this character, but there is just enough other things going on to make it work quite well.
