COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cho-Saiko is radical in Japanese surf slang. This is OB’s house Double IPA. Cho-Saiko is brewed year round as long as there is fermentation space. It is a big beer with big hop character. Dry hopped with five different hops to add to the hop experience. 1.082 SG 1.010 FG

Growler thanks to TedSwimmer. Pours a clear copper color with a large foamy white head and good rings of lacing on the glass. Spicy big hop aroma, citrusy and herbal with a moderate sweet malt aroma. The flavor has considerable sweet malt, pale and caramel malt, herbal qualities, and rough citrus, kumquat, orange, and grapefruit. Sweet for a west coast. IPA, but not to a fault. Brutal hop resins on the palate with medium-full body and slight syrupiness. Good DIPA overall, which is not surprising from Pizza Port.

GABF 2010. this one seems dialed down a tad from the other IIPA’s from Pizza Port. If a western NY brewery made this there would be a massive celebration (meaning a Buffalo brewery b/c Southern Tier puts it out) medium bitterness, tad of sweetness. good but thanks a back seat to some of their other offerings

On tap at PP SC. Pours clear orangish copper with white head. Aromas of sweet malt, light citrus, pine, earthy hops. Flavors of sweet caramel malt, light citrus, medium hop bitterness, and some pine. Sweet malts really dominated this one. Still a nice IIPA, but lacking hop bitterness I was hoping for.

Tap at PP/OB. Really fun to try and definitely out there. It looks the part- everything in order: big sticky lace, clear yellow, rocky head. Nose is very odd: similar to Stone 14th anniversary. Boadicea and Target hops perhaps? Kumquat, mango peel, butternut squash. Taste is squashy, kumquat, very rich, chewy, piney. Pretty interesting.

On tap poured a clear gold with a small lingering ivory head. Aromas of biscuit, pine, earthiness and light citrus. Palate was light bodied and crisp with a dry finish. Flavors of biscuit, pine, earthiness and light citrus with a crisp dry moderatly bitter finish.

Very good. One of those that will knock you down if you’re not careful. Very nice malty aroma that leads to a malty taste with a nice hop bitterness to balance out things. Well done.
