Served on tap at Port OB. The appearance is a deep caramel brown without too much head. The aromas are mild in intensity. Some caramel and toast nut aromas. The flavors are very full with a lot of toasted malts, carmalization, a nice sweetness to the brew, a slight oak hint at times, a few sips of alcohol. The mouth is full with a lightly drying finish. A well done Scotch Ale, cheers to the Home brewer Dirk.

A: The beer pours a dark brown color with some reddish highlights and an off-white head.
S: An interesting nose which is full of fruit notes. Prunes, raisins, plums, and black cherries about sums it up. Of course, some caramel and brown sugar with a mild vanilla note. There is just a hint of booze.
T: Though it was subtle on the aroma, the flavor has a very harsh booze flavor. Luckily there are still lots of dark fruits like raisins, plums, and black cherries. Caramel, brown sugar, and toffee sweetness are there, as is a bit of toast.
M: The body is medium to full with a medium carbonation.
O: Smelled good and had some okay flavors, but the abrasive alcohol flavor was too much for me.
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 BMan1113VR (7382) - Los Angeles, California, USA - JUL 31, 2011
On tap. Listed at 10.8%. Pours with a very deep brown body and a small tan head. Aromas are malty, boozy, caramelization, light smoke and tobacco, brown sugar and some alcohol. Flavors of toffee, almond nougat, marzipan, very fruity, raisins, prunes and vanilla. A hint of higher alcohols. Big, boozy, and thick. Some cherry and vinous qualities. Big viscosity, low carbonation. Well done.
2.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20 pushkinwow (1339) - Ottawa, Ontario, CANADA - JUL 25, 2011
On tap at OB. Light reddish/brown with tan head. Bit of peat, toffee, very dry, some earthy hops, oak. Cloyingly sweet, huge carbonation, alcohol bite on the end. Don’t think this really does it for me but I prefer scotch ales with a little bit of age on them to mellow and balance out the flavours - seems like this was made/released in mid-June.
