willblake (1952), Long Branch, New Jersey, USA Feb 27, 2005 02.19.05-02.20.05 Dark amber pour with small white head. Aroma = hops, front = hops, middle = hops, finish = hops, lingering hops. Nice toasty nuttiness and some clovelike spice to the malt character that struggles to keep up with the MASSIVE and delectible hops. This one throws caution and balance to the wind in a fabulous way. Can you tell I loved it?

jazz88 (2209), San Francisco, California, USA Nov 14, 2006 Tap @ Toronado 2005 barley wine festival. A reddish brown color with a tan head. Slightly sour with some candy and vanilla in the flavor. trokini (943), San Diego, California, USA Jul 5, 2006 Off the cask @ Solana Beach. Unbelievable. Pours hazy brown with an undulating tan head. Aroma is heavy with caramel, nuts, and wood. The taste is massive. Chewy mouthfeel that is full of caramel malt and alcohol, and a resiny back. This one came in at 11%, but was still nicely balanced. Nice hop profile that is tempered by the cask and malt. Get there before it is all gone. Hairofthedog (418), San Diego, California, USA Apr 11, 2006 I got this beer from Tom at OBrien’s, it was a ’97 bottle. Thanks Tom. The beer poured a cloudy brown color w/ golden yellow highlights, no head and lacing. The aroma had caramel, dark fruit, light citrus, raisin and plum notes. The flavor had alcohol esters, slight caramel, dark fruit, plums and raisins. The mouthfeel was medium bodied, good carbonation, and tastes slightly old (more like an english ale than a barleywine). TChrome (1256), Bedford, Texas, USA Mar 21, 2005 Boulder Strong Ale Fest 05, Rating #10: Pours reddish in color with dissipating off white head. Aroma is richly hoppy with a bit of an aged quality. Flavor is pretty big flavors of hops with some malt balance and some aged essence. Good beer.
