A: The pour is a dark golden/light amber color with medium white head. S: The nose starts off with bready malts and earthy, floral hops. And thatís also just about where it stops. Pretty light aroma, overall. T: A lot of similarities to the nose as I take the first sip. A moderate bitterness with an earthy hoppiness. The malts are bready and slightly sweet, but still not a very powerful flavor. M: The body is medium, even for what is a pretty light beer, with a moderate level of carbonation. D: Fairly light and simple, but definitely easy to drink. Not something Iíd necessarily come back to, though.

On tap at Pizza Port Carlsbad. Pours with a clear, deep golden body with a large white head with both good retention and lace. Aromas are grainy, earthy, and spicy hops with a light hint of caramel. Flavors are grainy and bitter with orange and light fruit. Kind of bland next to Lil Guy XPA.

From tap at the Carlsbad brewpub. Pours clear and golden orange with a small white head. Aroma is light caramelish and hoppy. Solid hops fruity flavoured, light heral to grassy touch and pinewood to grapefruity flavoured with a light leathery touch. Ends smooth bitter and fresh hoppy.

Draft in Carlsbad. A copper colored beer with a thin lazing beige head. The aroma has strong notes of spicy hops, lending it notes of grapefruit. The flavor is sweet with strong notes of hops, lending it notes of spices, hay, and some grapefruit, leading to a rather bitter finish.

Keg from Carlsbad Port 06/27/09. Rumors that this one was dry hopped for a few weeks seem to be true. Nose is big and tropical with a mango like aroma. Looks orangish with a single finger of white froth. Nice hoppy flavor with notes of pine and grapefruit that is balanced by caramel malts and a light toasted character. Mouthfeel is smooth and creamy with a medium body and a mellow carbonation. Quick clean finish with a little punch of hop bitterness. Pretty impressive beer and probably doesnít hurt that it was just kegged yesterday.

On tap @ Pizza Port, Carlsbad. Clear, deep orange amber. Low aroma of toffee and citrus. Soft malts take a backseat to the very bitter grapefruit rind hops. In every way an IPA except for the ABV. Very good!

Nice pale ale. Fresh, clean, and easy to drink. Amber color with white head. Floral hops, citrus, caramel malt, pine, and some earthiness. Full body for a pale ale.

Sampled on 12/8/08 at the brewery. This American Pale Ale poured a medium amber color from the tap. Medium sized white foamy head, with nice retention. The aroma is caramel and sweet, with lots of floral and piney hops. A medium bodied Pale Ale. The malts are caramel and sweet. The hops are floral and piney. Nice carbonation. Very fresh tasting, the hop flavors are very clean and crisp. A fairly hoppy Pale Ale, yet it has a nice malt character. Mouthfeel is full. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is bitter.
