omhper (10950), Stockholm, Sweden Feb 13, 2006 Draught at O’Brien’s, San Diego. Clear dark amber, small head.Roasty malt aroma. Dryish with clean mouthfeel. Some grapefruity hops covered in dust. Bitter, salty finish. A somewhat harsh pale ale. BückDich (4605), Boise, Idaho, USA Apr 4, 2006 Draught at Pizza Port Carlsbad
Pellucid amber color with no head or lacing. Nose is ripe and sweet with melon, oranges, kiwi that’s all an impersonation of the hop nose. The flavor is very citric like the ESB and comes across and delicious grapefruit juice. Earthy dry finish and a pleasant finish. This is nice. Perhaps a bit too dry-hopped comparted to the sweetness, but I like it as a pale ale. San Diego Pale Ale, ha. goldtwins (3747), Nesconset, New York, USA Feb 18, 2008 Tap @ PP Carlsbad. Poured a clear deep orange color with an off-white head. The aroma is of malt and orange scented hops. The flavor was of caramel and mild hops. Big growing bitterness on the finish. The grew to a moderate-big bitterness that tasted like citrus rind. Light to meidum bodied. Sledge Jr (2721), Omaha, Nebraska, USA Aug 10, 2006 On draft at Carlsbad Pizza Port. 6.1% ABV. copper color. nice roasty hop aroma. great hoppy flavor! a hop head delight. Big middle flavor that fades to a pleasant end. DarkElf (2681), La Jolla, California, USA Feb 19, 2006 (Draft: Pizza Port in Carlsbad, CA) Small, off-white head, perhaps a quarter-inch tall, is creamy with an uneven top. Amber body is somewhat hazy. Big, citrus and grapefruit aroma initially, but within a few minutes, it has dissipated, leaving a tea-like nose for the duration of the session. Likewise, with the first few sips, there is a lightly sweet, grapefruity, hoppy flavor initially with a moderate bitterness in the finish that sits on the palate long after all other flavors have faded. However, once the beer sits awhile, the hops has an unsweatened tea flavor and bitterness. The malt is always just a base, never really producing more than a background flavor. Medium bodied, dry, clean and crisp on the palate, solid carbonation. The head settles to a ring, leaving random patterns of lace on the top half of the glass. If this beer were a bit sweeter to offset the bitter tea, I’d like it more. But as it is, this is only mildly enjoyable for my taste.
