Pours dark brown with a medium tan head and good lace. Smells smokey and roasty. Dark malts and not much sweetness, a little smoked meat as well. Tastes a bit watery with dark, bitter roasted malts and some dirt, that’s about it. Thin, watery body and good carbonation.

On tap from Solana location. Huge coffee aroma. Flavor had cream and mocha mixed with espresso like aftertaste. My ’light beer’ drinking friends could not stand it, so there was nearly a pitcher for me. Had I not been full from incredible pizza I would have drank the whole pitcher.

On cask with espresso beans at pizza port san clemente. Pours black with a thin tan head. Aroma is lots of roast coffee and caramel. Flavor is more strong coffee with a strong hop bitterness and a hint of chocolate. Palate is silky with pretty much no carbonation.

On tap at Downtown Johnny Brown’s. Pours black with a dense off-white head. This beer is rich and ripe and resinous. Sweet in flavor with a strong malt roasted and coffee flavor. The high level of fruitines is actually able to mask the big coffee taste. Incredible.

From an old rating note - on tap at the San Clemente Pizza Port. Deep brown pour with tan head. Aroma of roasted chocolate malts. Heavily hopped. Don’t have much else other than a score.

Nice porter. Dark brown, very dark for a porter. Tan head. Roasted malts, chocolate, coffee, and light nuts and bitterness in the finish. Tasty porter!

Draft at San Clemente. A very black beer with a brown head. The aroma has notes of sweet malt, roasted malt, and nuts as well as lighter notes of chocolate and soy sauce. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt, hard roasted malt, lending it a bit of acidity, and cocoa beans, as well as light notes of nuts.

On tap at the brewpub in San Clemente. Pours a black body with a brown hue around the edges.Thick, brown head that dissipates slowly leaving a moderate amount of slippery, brown lacing. Nice looking porter. Aroma is pretty typical for a porter. Not too bold, more toward the subdued side of things. Roasty, chocolate, and a little coffee. Some noticeable citrus bitterness as well. Similar flavor with a little more richness to it. Sweet chocolate, mild bitter citrus, light coffees and roasts. Finishes with a light lingering roast and a tad sourness. Palate is medium to full, creamy, and dry with a long lingering taste. Overall, a pretty solid porter. Straightforwad with a good amount of taste and very well balanced. This brewpub does one hell of a job balancing its beers.

On draft at O’Brien’s. Appearance is a thick dense brown hue, head is cocoa velvet smoothness, huge thick pillowy lacing on the glass, AMAZING. Smell is mild malt aromas (chocolate & coffee) that are surprisingly muted, slight bitter and sour milk notes. Taste is mildly bitter coffee malts, nice cocoa sweetness, bittering hops midway, finishes smooth and slightly sour. Mouthfeel is medium-bodied, creamy smooth texture a la Guinness, mild-moderate carbonation, WONDERFUL. The appearance and texture are superb, very smooth and easy-drinking w/no alcohol presence, flavor is lacking boldness but is solid for the style.
