kepano (239), Meudon, France Apr 13, 2007 Generously donated by Chris (cquiroga), the Poorman’s IPA was aptly disguised in an inauspicious vessel, a consequence of being hand-bottled. Bright, clear, orange gold, and topped of an ephemeral white foam, I thought, for a moment, that I really had received a bottle of the so-labeled Widmer Brothers Hefeweizen. The nose was lively and unique, suggesting profuse fruity hops translated as pineapple, grapefruit, pine and cedar aromas. Pear, French verveine, honey, clementine and litchi added to the complex collection of rather unusual but enjoyable scents. The intensely bitter sensation experienced upon the first sip was quite sudden, and not as pleasant as the nose implied. Pineapple and clementine appear first, followed by a deluge of burning metallic bitterness, to finish on a note of unexpected noble hops. The dry and effusive carbonation seemed to accentuate the bitterness, while the interesting apricot and Gouda aftertaste provided this beer’s last surprise. Certainly a unique and interesting brew, but a bit severe on my palate – perhaps a result of the hand-bottling?

citrusy hop aroma and taste....not as complex as other of the finest examples...but very balanced and nice mgumby10 (1651), West Palm Beach, Florida, USA Aug 31, 2008 Draft. Pours a dark orange color, with a well reatined medium off white head. Smells ofrich piney hops, with a bit of grapefruit citrus thrown in there as well. The flavor was definitely big on the hops, althougth there was a decent malt balance in there to help it out a bit like a good double IPA should. Really enjoyed its complexities. The carbonation seemed about right and the hop bitterness was controlledi nthe finish. Nicely done. hopscotch (4679), Vero Beach, Florida, USA Aug 31, 2008 Draft... RBSG... This beer rocks!... Hazy yellow ale with a mid-sized, creamy, permanent, white head. Lots of fresh, juicy, yellow grapefruit wafts up from the glass. Full-bodied with a velvety mouthfeel and lazy carbonation. Leans heavily onto the bitter side of balance. A hint of acidity. Lengthy, medium bitter finish. World class imperial ipa! DA (2586), Portland, Oregon City, Oregon, USA Aug 16, 2008 RBSG 2008. Pours hazy gold with a small white head. Floral pine aroma with underlying citrus. Fairly spicy towards the finish from the hops, dry, crisp and floral. enginaaron (73), San Diego, California, USA Aug 13, 2008 On cask at O’Brien’s Pub in San Diego. Very sweet yet balanced by a very nice hop schedule and flavor. Nice and smooth on cask with low carbonation to allow a smooth yet hoppy finish.
