Living in Vegas and my roommate went to San Diego, I told him to get me some hop 15. He got me Poor Mans IPA instead growler Carlsbad. This beer is ridiculous. It is so smooth and the flavor is full all the way through. I compared it to Stone IPA and it blew it AWAY! FUll FLAVOR GREAT BEER!

on tap at pizza port carlsbad after being given a taster at the lost abbey tap room the night before. definitely had to seek this one out for a full pint. pours a clear, yellow-gold with a short, creamy white head and drippy lace. aroma is gorgeous with fresh, juicy, citrus hop notes of orange and grapefruit, dank grass, mild pine resin, and hints of tropical pineapple and mango. flavor is excellent as well with massive citrus hop notes of grapefruit, orange, and tangerine up front backed by dry, earthy, pine and just a hint of sweet, caramel malts preceeding the bitter, spicy, herbal/citrus hop finish. palate is medium bodied and prickly on the swallow with solid carbonation and avoids being too sticky-sweet. overall, a damn good DIPA.

Tap @ Toronado’s Pizza Port night. Pours a mostly clear deep gold with a slight orange hue, nice lacing. Nose starts off very perfumey with big citrus then giving way to caramel malts and some cereal grain. Flavor is very citrusy with a medium sized malt backbone and a medium sticky finish.

Pours a clean orange with small head and a little lacing. Aroma is lovely of earthy, pine and citrus hops. Flavor is bitter while the palate crashes into the ground in metallic and buttery after notes. Too bad for something I was hoping would be pretty spot on.

Growler from Carlsbad, 12/4/09. Took a pair of rubber gloves to unscrew this beast, yay me. Clear amber golden with a two finger light beige head, fading to a thick film and sheet of lacing before long. Tropical citrus hops up front with a tinge of herbal hops. Malts are composed of some clean, lightly sweet caramel. There is a slightly more floral than herbal component in the flavor, though some orange rinds show up more in the finish, bitterness peaking at a 6-7, and dry. Not a whole lot of the aforementioned caramel malts are to be found, but that’s quite all right. Medium-full body with light to moderate prickly carbonation. Wonderful DIPA--one of the best in recent memory

GABF 09. One of my favorite DIPA;s of the whole fest. Had to go back at least 3-4 times each session to get more. Pours a hazy yet bright orange with a nice tacky off white head- crazy lace. Aroma is intense hoppiness- prickly almost- similar to the hop dust or resin you get at the end of a bag- lemon, tons of dank weed, citrus, some tropical, lots of fresh cut pine and white cedar oiliness with just a slight carapils caramel thing going on. Flavor is 99% hops- overshadowing the malt which is nice- resinous, oily hops all the way through- gets a bit sharp and harsh but in a good way, tons of citrus, pine sap , resin and fresh minty piney weed- with oily grapefruit in the end - almost seems hairy and fibrous- how fresh the hop resin was in this- kickass.

[2490-20090926] Tap. Citrus hoppy aroma is fruity and light. Slightly hazy, light orange brown body with a medium-lasting foamy white head. Super bitter grainy citrus orange hops flavour has lovely fleshy fruit characteristics. Full body is very bitter. Lovely, just lovely -- tasty and awesome.

sample from the pitcher at GABF on 9/26/09... pours a light orange color with a white head... nice hop profile throughout... big and piney up front... medium body with average carbonation.... overall a well hopped and drinkable IPA.

Guest tap at FFF. Muddy gold pour, frothy white head and short lived lace. Resinous citrus hops on the nose. Mango, citrus, and light pineapple. Lingering bitterness
