Tap at Pizza Port San Clemente. Aged 2 years in Bourbon barrels. Pours a deep brown/black with thin brown head that doesn’t last long. Aroma is graham cracker, toffee and bourbon. The bourbon is again very distinct in the taste with a very bold sweetness that is really working well with the rest of what is going on here. The barrel and vanilla are very nice and you get a mild amount of tropical fruit if it warms a bit. Overall, the mouth feel is great and this is a damned good barrel aged beer.

Tap at PPSC. Muddy, maroon pour. No head. Nose is excellent savory smoke, butter, browned butter, hazelnut, Taste is silky, dense, spicy, black pepper, small butter, Germany chocolate cake. Delicious. Major upgrade. Fiancé rating: 3.8

Strong Ale 2012. Murky mahogany color with very little head. Very nice sweetness to the nose of bourbon, vanilla, brown sugar, and dark fruit. Some oak, a bit of chocolate, and some alcohol. Flavor is sweet dark fruit, bourbon, vanilla, and brown sugar. Some caramel, chocolate, oak, and a little bit of dark fruit. Much better than the regular version.

UPDATED: DEC 8, 2012 Murky brown pour with no head. Aroma is vanilla bourbon with caramel and classic dark fruit barley wine. Taste is bourbon with vanilla and dark, sweet malt and raisin. Clean, slightly light mouthfeel. Really good.
