4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 BMan1113VR (7420) - Los Angeles, California, USA - JUL 20, 2009
On tap at PP San Clemente. Pours with a slightly hazed golden body and a light off-white head that leaves great lace. Aroma of mango, pine and caramel. Taste is pine, herbal, caramel and needles. Really a great hop profile, and like other PP IPA’s very well done. Creamy mouthfeel and light bubbles.
4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 SamGamgee (2452) - down the whirlpool, California, USA - JUL 6, 2009
Draught at the brewery. Light amber orange color with a white head. The aroma is a hop punch of pine trees and grapefruit. Just bursting out of the glass. The flavor has copious amounts of fresh, piney, fruity hops with some grapefruit and mang going on. There is some light and dry toasty malt before a long bitter finish settles in. Dry and lean on the tongue with smooth carbonation. Really hoppy and dry for a DIPA, but not harsh or too one dimensional. This made the Poor Mans over at the Carlsbad location look sweet and tame in comparison.

4.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20 mralex (7) - California, USA - APR 19, 2009 does not count
On tap at San Clemente, and brought home a growler, which I cracked as soon as I got back home.
For a double IPA, this is isn’t as intense or sharp edged as I was expecting--instead, I am getting a very well balanced yet solid hop flavor, with a sweet taste in the mouth, and smooth aftertaste.
Very nice!

Sampled at the 2009 AZ Strong Beer Fest on February 28th. Amber pour with a nice head. Lots of grapefruity hop with just a touch of caramel malt. Very nice brew.
3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 illinismitty (2270) - Nashville, Tennessee, USA - MAR 19, 2009
Fresh keg at Hamiltons in San Diego. Pours golden amber with retentive white head. Aroma of grapefruit rind from the hops. Medium to light bodied with average carbonation. Flavor is all hops, creating a pucking citrus rind bitterness. Finishes dry with lingering hop resin.
4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20 ajm (1057) - Los Angeles, California, USA - MAR 15, 2009
Tap at San Clemente. This is clearly an Imperial Red. Color is a bloody plum-orange with a thick icing head. Aroma is dark fruit and resinous hoppage. Flavor is clean hops, strawberry, plum, citrus, and that thick red flavor of Decadence 2006. Just a real achievement, and the best beer I’ve ever had from any of the three Pizza Ports.

On tap at San Clemente. Nice IPA. Easy to drink. Not a malty melanodin IPA. Yellow amber color. Medium hop bitterness, but stronger aroma. Very nice.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 BeerandBlues2 (7467) - Hanover, Maryland, USA - MAR 7, 2009
Draught at Boulder Strong Ale Festival. Pours clear orange with a fizzy, off-white head, lasting with good lacing. Aroma is heavy malt (grain, meal), heavy hops (flower, perfume, pine), heavy yeast (sweat) with notes of pear. Medium bodied, sticky texture, average carbonation, and a bitter finish. Long duration, light sweetness, heavy acidity and bitterness.
