3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 dreadnord (996) - San Diego, California, USA - NOV 26, 2012
Big and black from the tap to the glass with a small tan head. Nose is coffee, chocolate, light toffee and dried pine needles. Taste is more bitter than sweet. Dare I say slightly off balanced. Not by much though. Mouthfeel is crisp cold and soften and smoothed out a bit as it warms, body is medium and the finish is long.

Draft. A really good porter. Plenty of Earth, roast, coffee and nuts. The body was medium and the finish was dry, somewhat chalky, and bitter sweet.

Tap at Pizza Port San Clemente. Pier rat porter. Pours deep cola to brune with a deeper mocha head. Nose is thicker roast and muted caramel/coffee. Taste is quite bitter, roasty, semisweet chocolate. Bits of cardboard in the finish but overall very clean on the palate. Perhaps a bit soily, earthy, raw. Very simple, no nonsense robust porter with proclivity towards to bitter end of the spectrum for style. Easily sessionable. I can see why it would win GABF Gold. But I think I’ll just take another Dawn til Dusk.
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Mortlach (715) - Rome, ITALY - JAN 20, 2012
24/05/2011 Brasserie 4:20 (tap).
