[At GABF 2004] An orange beer with a small dense white head. The aroma is grassy and hoppy, while the flavor is lovely hoppy and grassy combined with a nice maltyness, leading to a dry very bitter end.

(Draft: Pizza Port in San Clemente, CA) Lightly sweet and malty, but easily balanced by a citrusy, moderately bitter hoppiness that maintains nice balance through to the finish. The citrus is not a strong grapefruit flavor though. The palate is fairly clean with a mild crispness in the finish, but there’s enough malt for a substantial mouthfeel. The nose is mostly cirtusy hops with a light malt background. Medium gold in color and slightly hazy in appearance. Smallish off-white head fades to a thin film. This is a nice, pleasant pale ale, easy to drink.

Draught at Pizza Port San Clemente. A decent APA with a citrus bias, balanced with more hop bitterness than malt, could use a bit more malt character but quite drinkable.

Pours golden and a little bit cloudy. Very nice bright white head. Aroma is that of a "typical" APA, decent piney hop presence with a balanced malty sweetness. Flavor is the same, more piney hops. Medium body. Very average APA but not bad in any way...just nothing new here.
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 boto (1661) - Granby, Connecticut, USA - FEB 17, 2004
Draught: This one poured a golden color that was a bit hazy. There was some white head to it. There was a good hop aroma to it, mainly of pine and grapefruit both. The taste was mainly of piney hops. There was a decent medium malt body to the beer. Very Good!

Cloudy golden color with a light floral aroma. HUGE initial hop (amarillo & tomahawk) taste. Very bitter, almost sour taste. Very dry. Nice dry finish. Named after Poche Beach a surf spot in San Clemente.

Golden hue. A nice hop presence that is slightly floral. It has a good bite on the end and enough malt in the body to make it slightly sweet. The finish is nice and bitter. As far as APA's go, this is excellent. A great session beer also.

San Clemente: Medium bitter with a golden color. There was a pleasant lingering bitterness, but other Pizza Port offerings proved to be more enticing. I'll pass on the Poche.
