saxo (3511), Højbjerg, Aarhus, Denmark Mar 28, 2009 Bottle. Nice head with good duration. Color is amber. Aroma and taste are rich hops, caramel, and malt. Nicely balanced. nhorween (639), Chicago, Illinois, USA Mar 27, 2009 Bomber. Murky red-brown pour with a dense creamy head. I did pour out the yeast, accidentally, as I wasn’t expecting it to be bottle conditioned. Reminiscent of a hoppy american barley wine, with maybe less malt presence. Creamy and well carbonated. Easy to drink. sersdf (1000), chicago, Illinois, USA Mar 26, 2009 thanks nhorween. i’m surprised i’ve never had it. it was quite terrific. poured murky ugly brown with a half inch of solid thick head. nick probably shouldn’t have poured out the yeast, but that’s fine. pretty much reminded me of a pretty hoppy barleywine. i’d call it balanced. plenty of malts and caramel, certainly. i guess i dont have any specifics otherwise. good stuff, alcohol well hidden JaBier (1130), Capital City, Ohio, USA Mar 23, 2009 22oz bottle. Semi-opaque red pour with a thin off-white head. Sweet caramel malt aroma. Some hop presence, but smells like it might be a hoppy beer that’s past its prime. Definitely more hops in the flavor, confirming that this mutha is indeed fresh. Caramelly malt balance and a bitter finish. robertjm (399), El Cerrito, California, USA Mar 22, 2009 When I first opened the bottle there was little to no fizz, so I was concerned it was flat. Upon pouring nothing really formed in my glass but a small foam ring around the glass. Body is more brown than red, and pretty cloudy. Very hoppy aroma at pouring, but when taking in the bouquet in the glass the malt does come out. Flavor is not very balanced in the least, but then again there was a warning on the label that this had a ton of hops in it.. As it warms up it does give a sweetish trend going down, but the palate reverts to hops once you’ve swallowed. All in all, I wish it had carbonation in it, even a little. May have to try another bottle sometime to see if this one was bad. skmikeg (70), Poway, California, USA Mar 22, 2009 Pours dark red and cloudy with little to no lacing. aroma of strong hops, carmel, and some amber malt. nice flavor of grapfruit, carmel malts, and dark fruit. moutfeel is creamy. overall, a very good strong ale. nuplastikk (1157), Madison, Wisconsin, USA Mar 15, 2009 Updated: Mar 16, 200922oz "Double" Red Ale bottle. Brought this one back from Seattle, been stashed in the closet for 6 months. Thick red-brown color. Mellow sweet amber malt aroma. The mouthfeel is full and almost creamy, with a solid hoppy bitter edge. Solid big ABV amber malt collides with a sandy fresh bitterness. I couldn’t ask for a much better American Imperial Amber. Good Stuff. snoot (277), Anaheim, California, USA Mar 12, 2009 Very little head or lacing on this dark red cloudy beer. Strong hop presence in both the aroma and the taste. Sweet flavor, astringent finish. Mouthfeel was pretty thin for a big beer.
