Love Red Ale’s and I love hops. I think this has a good balance of both. Toasted Caramel and maple are apparent in smell and taste. I am really on a hop kick now so it wasn’t hoppy enough for me now. talon1117 (620), Bellvue, Colorado, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jan 7, 2009 Double Red Ale. Pours a fairly clear, blood red color with a moderately full, creamy, pillowy, beige head whci has good longevity and leaves some nice lace. Nose is interesting and in your face; light maple, toffee, toasted caramel, and burnt sweet breads make up the malt base with some alcohol warmth, and hop notes of heavy resins, perfume, and some citrus. Flavor is similar with the same malt base of toasted caramel, burnt sweet breads, toffee, light hazlenut, and faint maple with lots of resins, light grapefruit, and alcohol bringing a high bitterness. Palate is warm, moderately full, soft to lively, and velvety. Finishes long with some warmth still remaining, light hazelnuts, faint toasted caramel, and lots of bitter resins. By far the darkest and most bitter red ale I’ve had. Not a lot of hop flavors but certaintly bitterness, and the alcohol was a bit much but not overpowering. Unique but maybe needs some age? The flavor has lots of sweet, caramel malt and a good deal of citrucy hops, though the sweetness overpowers a bit. Thick in the mouth. Quite similar to the Yulesmith that i had the night before, though with a bit better balance. Still, just a bit too sweet for me. Defreni (999), Frederiksberg, Denmark

Citrus og en del tropisk frugt. Flot rød farve, men smagen er en kende ude af balance. Men stadig en treat. douglas88 (1580), Salt Lake City, Utah, USA

Pours a bright and clear reddish color with a thick beige head and lots of lacing. A sweet aroma of caramel, loads of sweet caramel. Some strong hops and alcohol also. The flavor is very nice; a smooth and sweet caramel malt mix, some fresh and sweet citrus hops, a noticeable alcohol presence. Very nice. A nice beer to drink a bomber of.
