Ibrew2or3 (2714), Safety Harbor, Florida, USA May 11, 2008 Pours clear amber with tan head. The mild aroma has notes of roasty to crystal malts and pine hops. The taste is much the same with rich roasted malts mixing with late addition to the boil pine hop flavor and full boil pine hop bitterness. Midway the malts well up for a moment and steal away the flavor from the hops. Into the finish and after taste the hops grow and leave a lingering pine hop bitterness. Delicious mix of flavors. badgerben (3584), Blaine, Minnesota, USA May 9, 2008 Thanks to Stine for sharing. Reddish color with a thin head. Very hoppy aroma and a strong caramel presence. Not surprisingly, the citrus hops crush the flavor. Lots of grassy and fresh hop taste. Caramel malt. Delicous. Angeloregon (2024), Portland, Oregon, USA May 8, 2008 Updated: May 18, 2008From a bottle purchased at Newport Pizza and Ale House--Poured a rich, crisp red body. Hoppy presence. Mildly cloying but freshly gripping and malty. Very worthy monstrously hopped hophead nectar. Bold and a good representation of the double red stylistic. Yum! hillfiiiiire (283), Madison, Wisconsin, USA May 8, 2008 Pours a dark amber. The aroma is pretty caramel-ly and hops. The flavor is pretty heavily alcohol and isn’t shy about. I think I’m actually getting burning sensation down my throat. It’s really syrupy sweet too. Kind of annoying. It’s all right. ketchepillar (475), Viña del Mar, Chile May 8, 2008 The interesting characteristic of this beer is the chocolate both in the aroma and flavor. It mixes w/ the hops and creates a very odd...thing. Aroma: moderately hoppy, sweet, boozy, and chocolate toffee. Full bodied but a little bit sticky. Wow, really chocolaty. Hops are floral. crowderm (275), Recklinghausen, Germany May 7, 2008 Pours a syrupy reddish amber. Aroma is mostly malts - bread, caramel, burnt sugar. Some citrus/floral hops present as well. The flavor is pretty bitter at first but fades out into a nice sweet and sour malty finish. The palate is thick and syrupy. Solid brew. Stine (1380), St. Paul, Minnesota, USA May 7, 2008 Poured from a 22 oz. bottle. Transparent, syrupy amber, topped with a milky film. Sugar cookie and burnt caramel aroma stands out. Proud assertive malts. Canned mandarin oranges and pineapple, pear, and basic heat follow through with some hoppiness and heft. Lick of perfume. Flavor is chunky and bold with some grapefruit acidity washing through the ruddy graham cracker and caramel brownie malts. A big, confident, sticky take on this impish style. Palate is heavy, and very syrupy, full and lightly carbonated with a slick feeling of crystal malts that polishes it too cleanly. Honey and citrus sugars finish in a balanced, somewhat resigned conclusion. Syrupy, lacking in dank bitterness, and a mite cloying with that heavy crystal impartation, but never seeming too forced or contrived. A strong example of a weak concept. Thanks Andy! pantanap (1322), Chicago, Illinois, USA May 7, 2008 Updated: Aug 5, 200822oz bottle bonused from justin. thanks man!..... poured a dark amber brown with a wispy off-white head..... aroma of caramel malt, little rye, and not so much in the hop arena. i was surprised to find the aroma more malt-favored..... flavor had a bitter pine hop profile and accented to a lesser extend with a caramel malt backbone. a little boozy.
