dwyerpg (2519), Las Vegas, Nevada, USA Apr 17, 2008 Not much head, reddish-brown. Has some malt and some hops in aroma. Flavor is also balanced with malts up front and hops in the finish. Pretty good. kmweaver (2395), Sebastopol, California, USA Apr 14, 2008 22oz bottle, courtesy of a trade from a while ago (WeeHeavySD?). Thanks! Pours a dark ruby-auburn color; thin light-tan head with patchy lacing; some viscosity. Lots of sticky sugar and basic dried fruits in the aroma; kind of straightforward and one-dimensional. Medium-to-full, sticky mouthfeel: just loads of candy sugar, toffee, and dried fruits upfront; again, lacking a certain depth here, just chewy underdeveloped maltiness; lots of red fruits and sugar throughout. Lengthy finish, showing residual sugar, caramel, and red fruits. ryan (1774), Beltsville, Maryland, USA Apr 14, 2008 Courtesy of kmweaver. Hazy dark amber body with a small, fading beige head. Big, sticky sweet nose with tons of toffee, dark fruits and some berry. The flavor is very sweet, moderately bitter with a ton of crystal malt, tea, astringent caramel, raisins, black berry, pine and citrus. Medium/full body is round with moderate carbonation. SDbruboy (1832), San Diego, California, USA Apr 12, 2008 On draft at O’Briens. Arrived a clear, dark reddish color with a small beige head. Aroma and flavor both feature rich toffee maltiness, dark fruits, citrus and spice, with a little pine in the flavor as well and an astringent finish. Full body and gentle carbontion. fakepurseninja (770), Washington, USA Apr 11, 2008 Seems like Lagunitas Gnarlywine Clone - heavy on the sweet, caramel malt with a huge serving of hops and fruit - a big chewy, malty, hoppy mess of a drink - Fantastic; not to bve ignored. Odeed (1666), Bakersfield, California, USA Apr 11, 2008 deep red in color with a small white head that leaves some lacing.awesome "san diego double red" type aroma of pine hops, caramel malts, and what i would say is "big red" chewing gum.the flavor is much of the same.i expected a bit more "bite" from the hops but its still pretty good. IMtheOptimator (1161), Bethel, Connecticut, USA Apr 11, 2008 Poured a clear dark amber with a fizzy frothy off-white head. Excellent aroma of fresh ruby-red grapefruit, grass, pine needles, a bit of candy sweetness. Flavor is somewhat thinner with strong bitterness laced with notes of pine and grassy, not as much citrus but perhaps a bit of grapefruit rind. Not a whole lot of sweetness or body to back this up... in fact, for its strength, it feels strangely thin. Similar to Coronado Red Devil in its promising aroma but comparatively disappointing taste and body. illinismitty (1790), Nashville, Tennessee, USA Apr 11, 2008 Bottle from Capone’s. Pours a nice clear amber red with an off white head. Aroma citrus hops and fruity esters. Packed full caramel and toasted malts, countered by a nice resiny bitterness. Mid palate to the finish, there is a semi-dry spicy woodiness the creeps up. This beer also has a nice balance of residual sweetness and hoppiness. Reminds me of Winter Yulesmith.
