Commercial Description:
Is it really safe to paddle out in our waters? It’s impossible to know for sure. What we do know is that this is an incredibly distinctive and bold American red ale that attacks your taste buds with lethal amounts of hops, which are balanced by a boat load of Crystal malt. If none of this fazes you, then maybe swimming in the shark filled waters is exactly where you belong. We’ll see you in the lineup!

strong hop concentrate aroma with some dried raspberry there as well. dark toffee color, minimum head. yum. the softer yet balanced among itself malt allows for the intense hops to take over and shine. hell yeah.

Bomber. Pours lightly hazy dark copper with a scant off-white head. Sweet grapefruit and toffee nose, and you’ll find a bit of pine if you dig deep enough. Sweet medium body and moderate carbonation. Toffee and citrus taste that finishes semi-dry, nicely bitter, but somehow crisp at the same time. There’s a bit of alcohol warmth, but not what I’d expect for a beer at nearly 10%.

22oz Bottle I got this in another great trade with errantnight, thanks Derek! Shark Attack Double Red pours like an amber ale should, amber. There is a good amount of haziness in there though. A one finger tan soapy head formed on the pour that quickly fell to a skimming with a thick ring but left excellent lacing on it’s way down. Not quite what I expected out of the gate. There seems to be a big boozy, syrupy sweetness that really isn’t my thing. Alcohol fumes waft through the air with no regard. The saving grace is the pungent resin hoppiness. Can’t get enough resin hoppiness. The flavor is, disappointingly, what the nose suggested. Alcohol is big andbrash right up front and the maltiness seems a little to sweet and syrupy. The resiny hops are there and seem to cover some of the faults up a bit but overall I’m pretty disappointed in the flavor of this beer. The mouthfeel is actually a little thin. I know, I know I was talking about syrupy this and that but that was the sweetness talking. Mouthfeel isn’t bad but it’s not very good either. I’m going to finish off this bomber and be done with this brew. The bomber is actually too much but I hate wasting beer. Not one I would pick up again from Port Brewing. I really like the things I’ve tried from them but this just doesn’t do it for me. 4/13/08

Bottle from South Bay drugs. A deep tinted mahogany hue with a fat formation of foam for a head. The nose is tamed although there is detection of sweet malting and fresh juicy hops. Flavor is a fair share serving of hops under light notes of citrus but does also has a large malt backbone that is semi sweet. Leaves behind a dirty mouth feel and strong alcohol aftertaste.

Shared by Crosling, thanks dude. Poured a deep garnet color with a moderate beige head that diminished to a layer but left great lacing. Aroma of caramel malt, and some earthy, piny hops. Flavor of light caramel, some spice I can’t identify, and light resin and pine hops with some light citrus. Full on the palate, nice bitter finish. I bet this is awesome fresh, it would be nice to try.

Poured a deep dark amber, but had very low carbonation. Head was nearly nonexistent. Aroma was strong and appetizing, while flavor followed through with every promise the scent had made. A great beer.

Not much head, reddish-brown. Has some malt and some hops in aroma. Flavor is also balanced with malts up front and hops in the finish. Pretty good.

22oz bottle, courtesy of a trade from a while ago (WeeHeavySD?). Thanks! Pours a dark ruby-auburn color; thin light-tan head with patchy lacing; some viscosity. Lots of sticky sugar and basic dried fruits in the aroma; kind of straightforward and one-dimensional. Medium-to-full, sticky mouthfeel: just loads of candy sugar, toffee, and dried fruits upfront; again, lacking a certain depth here, just chewy underdeveloped maltiness; lots of red fruits and sugar throughout. Lengthy finish, showing residual sugar, caramel, and red fruits.
