Commercial Description:
Is it really safe to paddle out in our waters? It’s impossible to know for sure. What we do know is that this is an incredibly distinctive and bold American red ale that attacks your taste buds with lethal amounts of hops, which are balanced by a boat load of Crystal malt. If none of this fazes you, then maybe swimming in the shark filled waters is exactly where you belong. We’ll see you in the lineup!

Bottle (as Double Red). Pours cloudy brown-orange with no head. Sweet fruit nose, almost artificially fruity. Smells thick and sticky. Opens sweet with a huge hop bitterness, unbalanced with no real body or carbonation to break up the intensity of the flavor. Quite boring and unnecessarily over-the-top.

Pours coppery red into a shaker. Head quickly subsides to hug rim. Sweet cranberry and caramel aromas. Viscous, creamy sweet caramel with an alcoholic hop finish.

i don’t know: it is similar to 547, but not the same--i actually need to do a sitting with both brews to see what’s up because of my taste right now, but this seems too salty and chewy for me... sorta like a chewy, fruity soy sauce.

I really did not care too much for this beer....when it warmed up just slightly....it got way way too sweet for it’s own good...not enough hop flavor.....but tons of hop aroma.....on tap

Small tan head, fair retention with a neat string of sagging lace left behind. Hazy amber hued body, light red glow. Lightly sweet caramel malts in the nose with some notes of pine and citrus, nicely fruity and juicey, inviting. Body is med/full with a slick smoothness and a surprisingly gentle prickly carbonation. Lotsa juicey malts and hops to go around, fruity, toasty, bready and grainy, resiny, oily, melony and just plain tastey! Finish is long and bitter but balanced, kinda sorta. very nice indeed! What a lovely expierience, thanks to footbalm! You da man Eric!

22oz bottle. Light, reddish brown with thin head. Light grapefruit aroma. Taste is resinous and thick malt, but not too sweet. Kick of citrus hops in the finish and a bitter bite. Too syrupy for what I was hoping, but at 9.2% it’s not to be unexpected I guess. Another solid brew from Port.

22 oz. bottle. Pours a ruby-tinted amber with very little head. Wonderfully pungeant aroma of strong hops and caramel malts, balanced perfectly. Equally pungeant flavor, though the malts shine more than the hops once you taste it. You can tell this is a strong one. Much like a hoppier version of Arrogant Bastard - if you like AB and are a fan of the paler ales, this one’s perfect. Thick, syrupy mouthfeel is almost a bit too heavy. This is an incredibly well-balanced beer, though - great all around.

Bottle. Pours a ruby red amber with medium off white head. Aroma is strong great smelling herbal hops. Taste has a lot more malt character than the aroma implies. Thick caramel mouthfeel with strong piney hops. Very bitter, in a good way.
