A moderate pour brought up a half-inch of white foam, and quickly dissapated. Barely a trace of any lacework and retention, with a few errant dots on the glass and whisps on the surface.
Aromatics are malty up front, with some rounded, earthy hops following through. Some residuals finish the nose with hints of citrus.
The mouthfeel is medium, a bit chewy, and slightly tacky.
Sweet crystle malt leads off the pallet, with a firmish bitterness, and a blend of tropical fruit and grassy hop resin.
Finishes slightly warming, with lingering bitterness and fading fruit.
Pretty tame for a "double red" from Port, but tasty and plenty balanced. The nose especially could use a heavier hand with the hops.

Triple red is a great concept, but I don’t think all of the kinks are worked out just yet. kyzr (1122), Belgrade, Montana, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Mar 28, 2008 Pours a reddish amber with light brown head. Hoppy and fruity nose. Good hoppy bite that really hits the palate. Takes a second, but then the malt starts to shine. Toasted sweet malt towards the finish with a crisp and clean ending. Didn’t even notice the high alcohol, one could really get into trouble drinking this on tap. Another winner from PB! Ty5592 (1015), Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA

Really a very pretty beer to look at. Sharp hops aroma with light chocolate notes. Light maliness in the flavor but mainy fresh hops and light roasted chocolate notes. Alittle fizzy acidic on the palate, but thats ok. Strong firm body on this. I might just buy a case, good stuff. ShawnMalloy (119), Auburn, Massachusetts, USA

| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 2/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Mar 26, 2008 22 oz. bomber. Poured deep, deep red with little to no head at all. Grossly undercarbonated. Nose is malty and sweet. Malty, resiny hop flavor. Finishes dry and bitter. Alcohol noticeable initially, less as the beer warms. I have to believe this was a bad bottle. Wow, big letdown. michael-pollack (2651), King of Prussia, Pennsylvania, USA

Poured deep orange/red in color with a small brown head that had a pinkish hue to it and diminished quickly. Clear. Not sparkling. Good lacing. Full of very tiny particles. Medium to heavy bitter flavor. Tastes of hops, resin, alcohol, caramel, and a little pepper. Medium body. Dryish, stickyish texture. Soft to average carbonation. Bitter, resinous, hop finish. Delicious!
