HopHeadinAZ (120), USA Jun 21, 2008 22oz Bottle: Pours a slightly cloudy dark amber with virtually no head. The aroma is malt driven with some hop presence but a some alcohol aromas are there on the nose. The hops are there in the taste, sweet citrus perhaps, but not overwhelming. This is about the malt and lots of it. I get caramel, butterscotch and a slight reminder of a barley wine. The alcohol that I smelled provides some warmth in my mouth. This beer is definitely a palate coater with a medium to heavier feel but it fits the style. This is a good beer overall but I shouldn’t be surprised that I’m not crazy over it since I am not a fan of the regular Shark Bite.
chriso (4667), London, Greater London, England Oct 28, 2009 Bottle @ pre-GBBF shindig, August 2009. This beer attracted sharply divided opinions. The critics found it over-sweet, over-hopped, crude and unbalanced. I can understand those sentiments. It is outrageously bittersweet with an overblown, exaggerated hop presence. However, sometimes I just feel in the mood for one of those bold and brassy hop bombs and this was one of those occasions. So, for me, this was simply lovely hoppy stuff.
SpringsLicker (2041), Tennessee, USA Oct 26, 2009 Hazy light brown body with a tall, lasting, light tan head.
Fruity malt aroma with lots of caramel.
There’s a firm hop bitterness that doesn’t show up in the aroma.
The flavor is almost too bitter.
Full bodied, smooth. joeneugs (282), Livermore, California, USA Oct 22, 2009 Pours red/amber with an orangy head. Aroma of fruits: cherry, plum, a hint of smoke and toffee. The flavor is thick and malty. Very herbal with toffee, plum, and a piney hop finish. Alcohol is very noticeable. stobbe74 (655), Denmark Oct 14, 2009 Bottle, 22 fl. oz. Pours a brown beer with an offwhite head. The aroma is hops, caramel, sweetness and alcohol. The flavor is caramel. The palate leaves some warmth from the alcohol. Overall an average beer. dionysus (95), Arizona, USA Oct 13, 2009 Bottle pours dark copper with a khaki colored head. Nose is heavy in caramel and brown sugar with notes of pink grapefruit. Flavor is sweet caramel, earthy hops, and vinous fruit. Maybe just a tad too sweet, but not so much that it’s off-putting. watson1977 (250), , Pennsylvania, USA Oct 11, 2009 pours an opaque reddish brown with a thin light tan head. aroma is super sweet...fruity hops...some pineapple and spruce. also caramel or toffee notes. flavor has loads of caramel malt and some piney, earthy hops with sweet, sticky citrus and fruitiness in the end. smooth creamy mouthfeel with a sweet piney lingering finish. pretty nice beer...id definitely drink it again though it is a tad sweet. harrisoni (6703), Ashford, Kent, England Oct 4, 2009 Bottle at Chriso pre-GBBF tasting 09.
