Commercial Description:
Is it really safe to paddle out in our waters? It’s impossible to know for sure. What we do know is that this is an incredibly distinctive and bold American red ale that attacks your taste buds with lethal amounts of hops, which are balanced by a boat load of Crystal malt. If none of this fazes you, then maybe swimming in the shark filled waters is exactly where you belong. We’ll see you in the lineup!

22 oz bottle. Pours a reddish brown with a creamy off white head that retains well and laces the glass.

The aroma is sweet caramel malts, melon, and piney grapefruity hops and a touch of alcohol.

The flavor is sweet caramel malts, pepper, alcohol, sour apples and tarry hops. The mouthfeel is medium to full bodied with a velvety finish.

Overall, almost an awesome beer. The flavor was a bit subdued and didn’t do it for me.

On tap at Solana Beach - mid april. this was absolutely delicious...right down my alley, a HUGE beer...very very hoppy but still very balanced with its malt background like most of their creations. Has a bit of a caramel taste and the finish coats the palate nicely. mmmmm. a very big recommendation on this one if you like big reds. This brew reminds me of Shark Bite Red on steroids.

I have to say the bottle sample I tried was just awful! Not sure the discrepancy in batches here...but cloyingly sweet. Almost undrinkable for me. Probably a 3 - 3.2

Bottle: Deep amber to brown in color with only some light lacing retaining. The nose shows sweet malt, grapefruit, herbs, pine, caramel and spice. In the mouth it is medium to full-bodied, sweet, rich and intense. The hops emerge on the finish which shows some bitterness. This is a well-balanced beer with the malt shining through in the midpalate and hops joining in toward the finish.

Bottle. Pours a ruby red amber with medium off white head. Aroma is strong great smelling herbal hops. Taste has a lot more malt character than the aroma implies. Thick caramel mouthfeel with strong piney hops. Very bitter, in a good way.

This beer has really confused me. Pizza Port making some great beer in general. I picked this bottle up from a bevmo in CA, and drank it immediately. Not sure what happened to this. Poured a dark red color with almost zero head. Aroma was huge sweet malt and raisins. Taste is hugely sweet as well, over ripe fruit and a huge alcohol kick on the end. The promised hops seemed to have vanished creating a syrupy sweet unbalanced malt bomb. I get almost zero citrus or punchy pine hop character. Not sure what to say, I am very confused as I was looking forward to this one. It is possible that any amount of time does not treat this beer well.

Bottle. Pours a dark amber-brown with no real head. Very hoppy aroma, with a bit of citrus and spices. Flavor also has a lot of hops, with still some hints of spices and a bit of malt. Nice lingering sharp bitterness. Interesting and tasty.

Holy hops! Citrusy, piney hops dominate the aroma. Pours a nice red color, huge long lasting head. Flavor is a potent blend of caramel and nutty malts and piney hops, with assertive hop bitterness. Creamy mouthfeel. This one is definitely a palate killer, but excellent nonetheless. Thanks for sending some out to AZ for the Strong Beer Fest!
