Commercial Description:
Is it really safe to paddle out in our waters? It’s impossible to know for sure. What we do know is that this is an incredibly distinctive and bold American red ale that attacks your taste buds with lethal amounts of hops, which are balanced by a boat load of Crystal malt. If none of this fazes you, then maybe swimming in the shark filled waters is exactly where you belong. We’ll see you in the lineup!

Courtesy of kmweaver. Hazy dark amber body with a small, fading beige head. Big, sticky sweet nose with tons of toffee, dark fruits and some berry. The flavor is very sweet, moderately bitter with a ton of crystal malt, tea, astringent caramel, raisins, black berry, pine and citrus. Medium/full body is round with moderate carbonation.

Bottle. Pours deep red with thick off white head. Aroma of malt and piney hops. Taste dominated by malt with slight grassy hops. Thick mouthfeel. Decent red ale.

Bottle. Ruby beer with a light tan head. Grapefruit/pine aroma with richer malts. Caramel, grapefruit/pine resin flavor with some nuttiness and richer malts. Medium-plus bodied. Grapefruit, pine and caramel linger. Good bitterness. Good aggressive balance between malt and hops (it’s not a "balanced" beer, but it comes together nicely).

Possibly one of the most beautiful beers in a glass. Ever. Deep mahogany red with a light head. Soapy hops. I really wanted more malt. A standard red ale is usually malty/caramely without alot of hops, so I was hoping for something a little richer or maltier. Not a bad beer as is, but other than the color, I’m not sure what differentiates it from other DIPAs or even some American barleywines.

[1367-20080517] 1pt6floz bottle. Hoppy dark malt aroma with leafy toast notes. Clear, dark amber brown body with quick off-white bubbles. Bitter hoppy grassy bits in the flavour, but mostly generic pine malt and bitterness. Medium body is super bitter. Interesting.

Overheard: "Yeah, they’re flavour crystals." (referring to large floaties)

This beer has really confused me. Pizza Port making some great beer in general. I picked this bottle up from a bevmo in CA, and drank it immediately. Not sure what happened to this. Poured a dark red color with almost zero head. Aroma was huge sweet malt and raisins. Taste is hugely sweet as well, over ripe fruit and a huge alcohol kick on the end. The promised hops seemed to have vanished creating a syrupy sweet unbalanced malt bomb. I get almost zero citrus or punchy pine hop character. Not sure what to say, I am very confused as I was looking forward to this one. It is possible that any amount of time does not treat this beer well.
