Commercial Description:
Is it really safe to paddle out in our waters? It’s impossible to know for sure. What we do know is that this is an incredibly distinctive and bold American red ale that attacks your taste buds with lethal amounts of hops, which are balanced by a boat load of Crystal malt. If none of this fazes you, then maybe swimming in the shark filled waters is exactly where you belong. We’ll see you in the lineup!

Sample at Alan’s HSC initation. Bottle from the Solana Beach location. The beer pours a luminous reddish-amber color with a thin beige head that dissipates fairly quickly. Spotty lacing on the glass. Toasted malt, orange rinds and hops in the nose. Medium-bodied and moderately bitter with hops, toasted malt and citrus flavors. The finish is hoppy with some grainy malt underneath, and the bitterness lingers for quite some time. Overall this is an enjoyable beer, and would be even better with just a little more balance.

Hoppier than I expected, it had a sort of boring typical "red beer" taste but the 9.2% elevated its status above the rest of the pack.

Semi-cloudy orange color. Intense sweet candy-sugar, citrus hops and pine sap... awesome nose, very well developed. Sweet overall, though it has some bitter and dry cherry flavored hops and bubblegum notes. Deserving of the praise it received.

2008-05-17. Dark amber body with a quick beige head. Hoppy aroma, modest green resiny hops. (7+) Flavour is similar, with a good amount of bitterness, resiny hop character, and a solid malt base. (7+) Average plus palate. (3+) . Pretty solid, quite drinkable. Alcohol is invisible. At Rudolf’s, shared by Blankboy

Bottle from a west coast trade. Big blast of hops and some rye like grains. Sweet malts help to even out some of the hops. I wish I had access to this as it would be in my fridge every day. Very refreshing and tasty.

thanks nhorween. i’m surprised i’ve never had it. it was quite terrific. poured murky ugly brown with a half inch of solid thick head. nick probably shouldn’t have poured out the yeast, but that’s fine. pretty much reminded me of a pretty hoppy barleywine. i’d call it balanced. plenty of malts and caramel, certainly. i guess i dont have any specifics otherwise. good stuff, alcohol well hidden
