Commercial Description:
Is it really safe to paddle out in our waters? It’s impossible to know for sure. What we do know is that this is an incredibly distinctive and bold American red ale that attacks your taste buds with lethal amounts of hops, which are balanced by a boat load of Crystal malt. If none of this fazes you, then maybe swimming in the shark filled waters is exactly where you belong. We’ll see you in the lineup!

Pours a reddish-brown color with a thin white head. Aroma is bitter, grassy, caramel. Taste is about the same. Reminds me a lot of Southern Tier Big Red and Gemini. A bit harsh for me.

Bottle @ pre-GBBF shindig, August 2009. This beer attracted sharply divided opinions. The critics found it over-sweet, over-hopped, crude and unbalanced. I can understand those sentiments. It is outrageously bittersweet with an overblown, exaggerated hop presence. However, sometimes I just feel in the mood for one of those bold and brassy hop bombs and this was one of those occasions. So, for me, this was simply lovely hoppy stuff.

Hazy light brown body with a tall, lasting, light tan head. Fruity malt aroma with lots of caramel. There’s a firm hop bitterness that doesn’t show up in the aroma. The flavor is almost too bitter. Full bodied, smooth.

Pours red/amber with an orangy head. Aroma of fruits: cherry, plum, a hint of smoke and toffee. The flavor is thick and malty. Very herbal with toffee, plum, and a piney hop finish. Alcohol is very noticeable.

Bottle, 22 fl. oz. Pours a brown beer with an offwhite head. The aroma is hops, caramel, sweetness and alcohol. The flavor is caramel. The palate leaves some warmth from the alcohol. Overall an average beer.

Bottle pours dark copper with a khaki colored head. Nose is heavy in caramel and brown sugar with notes of pink grapefruit. Flavor is sweet caramel, earthy hops, and vinous fruit. Maybe just a tad too sweet, but not so much that it’s off-putting.

pours an opaque reddish brown with a thin light tan head. aroma is super sweet...fruity hops...some pineapple and spruce. also caramel or toffee notes. flavor has loads of caramel malt and some piney, earthy hops with sweet, sticky citrus and fruitiness in the end. smooth creamy mouthfeel with a sweet piney lingering finish. pretty nice beer...id definitely drink it again though it is a tad sweet.

Bottle at Chriso pre-GBBF tasting 09. I do like west coast red ales. Very decent hop. Lovely sweetish malts. Great hops. Lovely. Would drink this every day.

Pours clear rust brown, with a thin beige head, fine lacing. Aroma of toffee, caramel, nuts, grass, and pine. Full, warming body, velvety, very dry. Nutty flavor, toast, cereal grains, and big hops, pine, and grass, medium-strong bitter finish.
