geographylists (24), San Diego, California, USA Feb 6, 2007 Bottle. This is quite a flavorful beer, with a mix of grapefruit, caramel and pine. Hops are strong--just the right amount of bitterness. Carbonation is just a tad weak but not terribly so. Note that the bottled beer is actually produced in San Marcos, so it might not necessarily be quite the same as what you get at the restaurants.
jsh12bama (202), Alabama, USA Aug 18, 2008 Draft @ Lost Abbey. Amber color with off white head. Aroma of malt and nuts. Thin mouthfeel. Just OK. DA (2376), Portland, Oregon City, Oregon, USA Aug 16, 2008 RBSG 2008. Pours a nice red/copper with a soft off-white head. Lots of warm caramel flavors up front that balance well against the crisp citrus hop finish. Very nice all-around drinker. RunDWP (140), San Jose, California, USA Aug 14, 2008 On tap. Subtly nutty, a little roasted malt, smooth and mellow. Some light hops. Surprisingly subdued flavors with some balance. dogfish120love (40), west hartford, Connecticut, USA Aug 11, 2008 wow it does have quite a bit of a hop bite. spicey red ale with an amazing taste. I usually do not drink amber/red ales but this is worth giving a try. jasonp (1440), Sterling/Dulles, Virginia, USA Aug 10, 2008 Sampled at Lost Abbey, RBSG ’08. This beer will hold a special place in my heart because it was the one that helped get rid of my hangover just before the Lost Abbey guided tasting. Onto the beer itself...pours a dark, clear bronze with an off-white head. Toasty, toffee nose with a touch of grapefruit/hoppiness in the nose. Flavor notes of caramel, light pepper, toastiness, faint raisin then a solid grapefruit zest-like hop bitterness with a tinge of pine. Medium bodied with a pretty lively level of carbonation. Overall, a solid drinkin’ beer.
