Kathy (241), Washington DC, USA Jul 18, 2003 Cloudy, somewhat amber gold color. Odd, plastic-y aroma (like a strawberry shortcake doll (my apologies to all of you who are neither female or products of the 80's and have no idea what that smells like . . .), but it's closer to mango or orange than to strawberry. It has lavender and rosehips in it, which is probably what gives it the aroma that I found disturbing. Sweet, spicy flavor. The lavender and rosehips really come through. Both the aroma and flavor are too plasic-y for me. I respect the effort at a creative farmhouse style beer, but it's just not my cup of tea.
awaisanen (1189), Irvine, California, USA Jan 24, 2007 From a 750mL Bottle. Enjoyed at the brewery courtesy of Tomme Arthur. Pours a slightly hazy color of golden straw with a fleeting glimpse of large bubbles reminiscent of past carbonation. A sweet, vinous perfume of riesling grapes wafts up to greet my nostrils, dusted with confectioner’s sugar, and finished with a whiff of lilac petals. Similar aroma to a fine white dessert wine, and leaves me speculating what it must be like if only some more carbonation could help stir up some hidden aspects. Medium bodied, relatively still mouthfeel, but a tingle of carbonation is left to tickle the tongue with a soft effervescence. A massive wave of slightly tart white grapes instantly floods the palate, sweetened by some delicate sugars. A touch on the sweet side, I imagine that more carbonation, again, would help dry up the palate a bit. Still, the slightly sour vinous characteristics are most welcome and satisfying. Loads of herbal, floral characters come through on the back end, finishing with a gardeny smack. Its like drinking a cool glass of riesling in the garden on a warm summer morning. thebeertourist (2005), Oslo, Norway Mar 15, 2006 On tap at Pizza Port Solana Beach. Deep rubyred with a rich and cloying off-white foam. Interesting aroma of caramel, spices and yeastiness. There are sweet caramel flavours with a spicy, yeasty dryness towards the finish. Fruity flavours as well as sour notes. Medium body. A very complex Belgian style ale, a mix of Oudenaards Bruin and a saison. stoutlover72 (1342), NorCal, California, USA Feb 7, 2006 The pour from the bomber was a nice cloudy orangish color with a small white head. Aroma was peppery and perfumy with notes of grapefruit and citrus along with some peppermint and maybe a little too sweet. Flavor was nice with the taste of cinnamon and lemons and some ginger in there too. Overall just an incredible beer from a very good brewery. chilehead (186), Laguna Niguel, California, USA Aug 22, 2005 No head on the glass I was poured. Nutty brown with flavors of peppermint, bananas, cloves, cardamom, root beer. Carbonation is grainy, like soda bubbles. Roses on the nose. Quite nice. RateandPillage (417), Atlanta, Georgia, USA Jul 18, 2005 On tap at Solana Beach. Pours yellow-orange with good white head. Yeasty, bready, grassy aroma. Citrusy in flavor with a good amount of sweetness for balance. I think they add some Belgian candy sugar. Very good beer.
