Overall: a truly excellent beer! DocLock (4175), Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA Jan 23, 2006 Thanks to Secret Santa for this one. The pour was hazy orangish copper with 2-finger head. Complex aroma of spciy hopcit (lemon, orange zest), coriander, black and white peppercorns, chamomile, and some barnyardy candi sugar. The flavor was floral, spicy, and malty, with notes of nutmeg, tangerine, papaya, pear, banana, and ground peppercorns. Very complex, dense, and velvety mouthfeel. Very fruity and not semi-dry like most saisons. Perhaps the finest saison I’ve ever had. Here’s a recap of what I smelled and tasted in this baby at various stages in its warming evolution: Honey, lemon, orange zest, chamomile, coriander, black & white peppercorns, brown sugar, nutmeg, pea, apple, apricot, canteloupe, tangerine, papaya, mango, watermelon, green grapes. Amazing. Hairofthedog (418), San Diego, California, USA Feb 23, 2005 The beer poured a golden orange w/ yellow highlights; thick lasting head and lacing. The aroma was full of soury fermented fruit, citrus, flowers and spices. The flavor was soury fermented light fruit, honey, citrus, and flowers. The mouthfeel was light and carbonated w/ nice tartness. Sickboy282 (1083), San Diego, California, USA Feb 14, 2005 Updated: Jan 5, 2008Wow...This brew is amazing.....Just like the spf 8, this may be the best domestic saison available. Pours a golden amber hue with a bubbly white head. Aromas are champagne like with hints of spice, and a fruit. Flavors are spiced with a nice light tang. WOW>>> iwantalambic (1361), St. Louis, Missouri, USA Jun 18, 2006 Updated: Jul 13, 2006750 mL bottle (corked & capped) - 2003 version, #188 sampled June 2006: hazed pink, orange-gold with a very generous, stiff, off-white cream. Floral aroma with strong, bitter (and peppery) citrus wisps, along with buttered dough and extremely sweet, light coloured caramel. The carbonation is intense – loads of tiny bubbles without being fizzy – creamy and smooth, but lively. Wild fruitiness: apricots, ginger and bananas with pretty heavy doses of peppered grains and mint. Orange peel bitterness covers the vanilla sweetness nicely. Long, dry finish, with the spicy bitterness, elegant & very well done.
