3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
A hazy orange-brown beer with a yellow head. The first I notice about the aroma is a slight acidity, but beoynd that there is notes of malt and caramel. The flavor is acidic malty with notes of grapefruit, and with a dry woody end. I find it more like a Flemish sour than a Saison.

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
UPDATED: APR 6, 2006 Draught at the brewpub. Cloudy dark brown, small head. Lightly yeasty orange aroma. Dryish and almondy with powerful malt, yet with slender mouthfeel. Notes of coffee before a marmelady finish with low bitterness. Excellent and individualistic.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Many thanks to TAR for this! Pours a rich dark brown with a frothy light tan head. Aroma is dry, woody, musty, and complex with a hint of caramel and toffee. Starts lightly caramel malty sweet with a nice texture, great earthy cherry complexity and a dry, warming bitter yeasty finish. Wonderfully balanced and a great rendition of the style. This wasn’t brewed in Belgium?? Coulda fooled me...

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Deep dark brown body. Thin light brown head is rocky. Aroma explodes with roasted malts and dark chocolate. Spicy (ginger) and incredibly malty. Dark fruits, which are all over the place, appear inferior to the coffee notes which appear inferior to the smokey notes which appear inferior to the roasted caramel suggestions. Multi faceted malt layers fight for the king of the hill title under the supervision of the highly compatible pizzaport yeast which ensure the almost impossible task of balancing it all. This is an angry crowd that makes no trouble. Soft carbonation, medium body. Complex and lovely. I don’t seem to have as many things to say as I wish or think, but this beer deserves every bit of fuss it may obtain. Huge cheers to hopsrus for bringing a plethora of world-class beers.
