BlackForestCO (549), Fort Collins and Black Forest, Colorado, USA Apr 22, 2008 Updated: Jun 11, 2008 On tap. Poured a dark brown color with a moderate off-white head. Aroma of light roasted malt, chocolate, and coffee with a hint of hops peaking through. Light chocolate with some roasted malt and a hint of coffee lead into a dry, hoppy finish with a bit of lingering ash/smoke. Full on the palate, but not much different body-wise from most other stouts. Not bad, seems like a bit of time to let the hops fade a bit would make it better.
DaSilky1 (1625), San Diego, California, USA Sep 21, 2008 slightly smokey nose with hint of chocolate covered raisins. blackish beer, solid tan head. very raisiny flavors with a background of chocolate. somewhat sweet and full pleasant mouthfeel. not much roast notes at all...and a firm alcoholic background. this is actually a remarkably drinkable, sweet, raisiny stout and a very nice change of pace from most big stouts...it almost has a slight vinious character as well. this is aperfect session imperial if such a thing exists...nothing bombards your palate but everything is soft and gentle, sweet and raisiny, and, well..i dig it. riversideAK (1634), Shoreline, Washington, USA Sep 13, 2008 Dark brown, almost black with a tan head. Roasty aroma with a ton of earthy hops. Dry and roasty, chocolate, coffee, and massive hops that are floral, earthy, and inky. Lingering dryness in the finish. alexanderj (1340), San Diego, California, USA Sep 8, 2008 Sample at PP Carlsbad; color was dark brown with a light brown head. Aroma of coffee, roasted malt, earth and cocoa. Flavor was very floral in the finish with a good amount of chocolate. Mellow flavor, but pretty good. A nice amount of bitterness in the finish. Wouldn’t have pegged it as an Imperial Stout. jsh12bama (227), Alabama, USA Aug 18, 2008 Draft @ Carlsbad. Pours dark brown. Thick tan head with chocolate malt aroma. Thick mouthfeel. Decent but not great. Ungstrup (11378), Frederiksberg, Denmark Aug 12, 2008 GABF 2007. A brown beer with a red shine under a thin orangey head. The aroma is sweet malty with notes of over ripe fruits. The flavor is sweet with notes of vanilla and roasted malt, as well as lighter notes of coffee, leading to a dry bitter finish.
