can8ianben (641), Pasadena, California, USA Sep 9, 2008 A tasty stout, but pales in comparison to the big boy on tap (the Tovarish). It has a nice mouthfeel, full bodied yet very smooth and drinkable. You can taste and feel the alcohol, but it doesn’t feel like a heavy beer. Lots of smoky richness, deep malt and spice. enginaaron (73), San Diego, California, USA Aug 30, 2008 On tap at Port Solana Beach. Killer stout, I really like it. Wasn’t sure how this was going to turn out but it was very good. Very dark with light tan head. Moderate roasted barley with some chocolate in the aroma. The flavor is full of a VERY balanced amount of roasted barley, chocolate, vanilla, and a slight bit of coffee. Very thick and viscous. I thought this was terrific. Terrific creamy mouthfeel, very smooth. Very good hop characteristics. You don’t notice the hops, but there’s a certain background spiciness from hops. I really liked this. bb (2168), Martinez, California, USA Aug 19, 2008 Black beer with an off-white head. Roast and caramel aroma. Caramel, roast, light fruit, chocolate flavor. Medium body. Caramel lingers with light roast, chocolate, and light fruit. yespr (6889), Copenhagen O, Denmark Aug 6, 2008 From tap at Solana Beach. Pours black and with a lacing tan head. Hard roasted and coffeeish malt aroma. Flavour is hardroasted, light residual sweetness and a nice chocolate malty smoothness. Ends with a long lingering roasted malt flavour. Could have been mixed up with the tovarish espresso stout. Oakes (6979), Miami Beach, Florida, USA May 25, 2008 Dark brown. Rich, thick, almost syrupy dark malt. Hints of toffee, coffee. Slight roasty nose with light plum. Off-dry finish.
