trokini (943), San Diego, California, USA Aug 6, 2007 Tap at Solana Beach. Black pour with a short tan head. Dense aroma of coffee, roasted malt, cream, chocolate cake, and burnt oil. Velvet mouthfeel. Bitter in the best way; bittersweet chocolate, burnt coffee, mild tobacco and leather. Finish is a turn to the sweet, almost like a chocolate milkshake, but drier. Great beer. badlizard (1568), San Diego, California, USA Jun 21, 2007 On tap at Pizza Port. Black with creamy off-white head. Chocolate and roasted malt aroma. Smooth light bodied palate. Rich chocolate taste, with a sweet dry finish. Very good. enginaaron (73), San Diego, California, USA Aug 30, 2008 On tap at Port Solana Beach. Killer stout, I really like it. Wasn’t sure how this was going to turn out but it was very good. Very dark with light tan head. Moderate roasted barley with some chocolate in the aroma. The flavor is full of a VERY balanced amount of roasted barley, chocolate, vanilla, and a slight bit of coffee. Very thick and viscous. I thought this was terrific. Terrific creamy mouthfeel, very smooth. Very good hop characteristics. You don’t notice the hops, but there’s a certain background spiciness from hops. I really liked this. DuffMan (2139), Calgary, Alberta, Canada Oct 26, 2008 GABF 2008. Black, oily pour with a brown head. Much more straight roast aroma than the resurrection sampled just prior, earthy-clay, chocolate, subtle smokiness. Dense and velvety mouthfeel, hint of fruit acids in the finish. Fantastic. papajohn (997), San Diego (Mira Mesa), California, USA Jun 24, 2007 Updated: Jun 29, 2007On tap@Port Solana: Dark brown almost black with a medium tan head. Aroma of chocolate fudge pudding. Flavor starts rich dark chocolate followed by some coffee notes and finishing with a smooth, light licorice bitterness. Full bodied and creamy with gentle carbonation.
