arjoseph (558), Chicago, Illinois, USA Apr 17, 2006 On tap at the brewpub. Sampled with cquiroga, summer 2005. Opaque black; thick, creamy tan head is a dense foam that leaves a sticky but thin lace. Chocolate roast and dry hops smell. Good chocolate baseline flavor settles into a hard candy sweetness and a very delayed and subdued dry hoppy finish. Great session dry stout; would be phenomenal if the finish were more pronounced. Ungstrup (11713), Frederiksberg, Denmark Oct 19, 2005 [At GABF 2004] A clear brown beer with a small disappearing orange head. The aroma is roasted combined with notes of coffee, while the flavor has a strong roasted malt character giving it a nice sweetness with a good amount of chocolate notes, but the body is thin. chilehead (186), Laguna Niguel, California, USA Aug 22, 2005 Smoky and smoky. Smooth nitrogen head. Not as robust as most stouts, reminds me more of a porter. Tannic/dry mouth at the finish. Did I mention it’s smoky? JohnC (1779), Mission Viejo, California, USA Aug 14, 2005 Had this on tap at Pizza Port San Clemente. It’s black w/ a very creamy off white head. Nice dry flavor, very easy to drink. Very smooth. papajohn (997), San Diego (Mira Mesa), California, USA Aug 8, 2005 On tap@Port San Clemente: Black in color with a foamy, creamy tan head. Light dark malt aroma. Flavor is lightly sweet with a hint of coffee and cream. Finish is dry and lightly bitter. Thin, smooth creamy palate.
