COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Editor’s note: previously brewed at Næstvedbryggeriet Føniks.

Sour and bitter root beer? Ugh, ugh, this was almost undrinkable. There’s something strange and sour with the Danish stouts.

0.5 bottle. Black in color, head is tanned, medium-sized and quite retaining. Malty aroma, mostly dark dessert chocolate, roasted malts, coffee and some dark bread together with caramel. Malty bittersweet taste, coffee and chocolate predominate the sensation, balanced and not obtrusive, somewhat woody, very pleasant. Body is between medium and full, texture slick but at the same time somewhat oily. Carbonation is very soft on its way to flat. Finish is balanced and follows the taste although regrettably it is kind of watery and soft. All in all it is a great brew with only minor flaws, worth recommending.

Dark brown. Thick, whipped foam. Very rich and fruity aroma, a distinct scent of dark berries, ditto taste. Despite this, the brew does not linger very long on the palate.

Bottle. It pours a huge, creamy, light beige head over a more or less black body. Some lacings. The aroma is burnt and sourish, with some dark dried fruits, some licorice and a touch of roasted bread. The flavor is on the malty side, some caramel and burnt notes, a little bit of molasses as well, but mostly roasted. Full body, nice carbonation level. Roasted finish with molasses. A quite pleasant beer, but I suspect it was on its way to go bad. 120413

Draught at Copenhagen Ølfestival 2012. Black color. Sweet worty aroma. Sweet worty taste with toffee, chocolate and nuts. Very grainy and worty, which is quite nice when fresh.

500ml bottle by the courtesy of Skinnyviking. A brownish shade to a jet black body. Quickly diminishing tan-coloured head. Inviting aroma of chocolate malts, slightly roasted. Grainy chocolate malts in flavour with dark fruity bitterness behind. Liquorice bitterness on the swallow. Quite alright – last beer during some great drinking days in Copenhagen (hotel room, 13.05.2012).
