3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Cask handpump at The Hop Pole, Aylesbury, Bucks, Tuesday 7th August 2012 Pours dark amber a little bit biscuity from the off, reasonable beer, bittersweet, lacks a real hoppy bite, some caramel, its absolutely fine but one that I drank without really thinking about it, so it didn’t really leave much of an impression on me at all. 2.6 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Half-pint, gravity pour at the 1st Hodnet Sports and Social Club Beer Festival on 17 Aug 2013.
Golden hue to the light brown body, small wispy head of white islands and a weak collar.
Mild malty nose, some biscuit and caramel hints but very little smell all round.
The taste is also mildly malty, again with caramel and a biscuit feel to the flavours, undertone of hop bitterness that doesn’t really surface until the end of each sip.
No great depth of character or charm: bog standard semi-sweet UK Bitter.
