3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
On cask (handpump) at the Hobgoblin, Reading on 28 April 2011. Copper colour. Thin white head. Little bit of caramel in the aroma. Some pleasant earthy hops on the palate. Hints of fruit and maybe even a touch of licorice. Personally, Iíd prefer a bit more bite in a bitter but thatís just personal preference and this was a decent enough drop.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Cask (Helsinki Beer Festival 2011)
6 Slightly dull aroma, which is pretty standard for a UK bitter, but not unpleasant.
3 Fairly pleasant caramelly colour.
6 Seems more of a red ale than a typical bitter. As such itís pretty good, but Iím not so much of a fan of that sub-style.
4 Smooth palate, but maybe a little sticky; carbonation low. Finish has pleasant chocolate and cocoa notes.
12 Aiming perhaps a bit in the caramelly direction, which is unnecessary in a bitter.

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Cask-conditioned at the Seven Stars, Bristol 18/03/10. Copper coloured with a decent, lacy white head. Aroma of biscuit malts, damsons and a touch of caramel sweetness. Flavour had more fruit, cereal malts and a big, bitter finish. Very enjoyable.
