argo0 (6284), Washington DC, USA Oct 12, 2007 (50cl bottle) Medium white head atop hazy light amber body. Aroma is medium sweet, floral/orange, some bread/caramel. Taste is moderately sweet, orange/floral, some bread/caramel. Medium body, light resin. More like an APA or even an ESB than a Doppelbock. Yummy though. Rastacouere (5418), Montréal, Quebec, Canada Jan 17, 2008 Clear sunny yellow coloured lager that focuses directly on malts. The faint white head quickly departs. Not much fruit complexity, but rather crisp biscuit, fresh bread, cerealic base. Very fresh vienna malts. Soft and pleasant herbal/hay-like hops. Not grand, but quite successful in its homogeneity. Every ingredient fits one another. Subtle, sometimes grainy, sometimes toasty. A bit of honey reminiscent sweetness creeps up, but never dominates, the toastiness balances it out nicely. Pleasant, but the appearance is disappointing and aroma perhaps too shy. CaptainCougar (4687), Rockville, Maryland, USA May 3, 2008 Pours a transparent deep golden bronze with a spotty-lacing froth of white head. Aroma of sweet toasty pale German malts, some floral hop notes and German yeast with some subtle bubble gum character. Body starts with good full sweetness and nice bitter balance before a slightly drier, earthy hop and bready finish. A nice heller doppelbock. JPDIPSO (4344), Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, USA Aug 12, 2008 Smallish off-white head atop a lightly hazed amber colored liquid. Big malty aromas. Caramel, wheat, light toffee and toasted malt in the scents. Some mild floral and husky corn in the back distracts a bit. Sweet caramel start with some mildly musty grain seeping in. Fairly sweet throughout. A lot of floral hops flavors in the middle that carry into the finish. While the aromas suggest malt depth, I’m not catching them in the flavors. Actually quite light in flavor for the heft of this one. A bit sneaky in the EtoH department. Tastes more like a strong oktoberfest. Perhaps I like this more than my score indicates, but I was in a dopplebock frame of mind coming into this one.
