330ml bottle. Pours clear reddish brown with an off-white head. Sweetish malty aroma with some grassy hops. Malt, caramel, nuts and some grassy hops in the flavour. A malty finish.

Deep amber-bronze clear body, light tan head, poor lacing. Aroma; powerful malts, roasted malts, nut sauce, dark bread, dark caramel, coffee notes, juicy liquorice, sour prunes. Taste; dark malts, juicy grassy hops, cocoa, chocolate, nougat, sweet liquorice, some raisins, lemon notes. Milder finish. Nice body, soft carbonation. Pretty good dunkel.

Pours out of the bottle in a deep dark brown colour with low steady head and medium body. Aroma of sour mash and malt. Taste of malt, torf, leaves, nuts, straw and dark berries. Light acid-malty finish. Drinkable.

Poured dark brown with minimal head. Aroma of sweet malt and spices. Medium body, flavour as the aroma. A bit one dimensional.

33 cl bottle from monopoly. Dark brown, almost black color with small cappucino head which disappears quickly. Nose has light, closed aromas, mainly malts, toasted rye and alcohol. Light quick acids which makes taste short and bubbly. Not good, but drinkable.

bartlebier (2820) - Belchium im Biersgau, GERMANY - APR 11, 2014
33cl bottle, FR-Denn’s Biomarkt - bb 10/2014. Pours an appealing translucent deep red-chestnut brown with crisp beige head, accompanied by an inviting malt-aromatic nose of red berries and roast. Taste is varieties of simple natural roast like toasted Landbrot crust, roasted hazelnuts, older cocoa powder. Medium dry palate with a dusty feel to it, enlivened by spicy hops, yet not quite up to the Altbayrisch Dunkel standard that adds coffee and dark chocolate on top. Even if this beer is not (?longer) brewed in the abbey, it remains true to the Benedictine speciality of Dunkel (over Dinkel). Solid example of the style, with an almost franconian bread crust/hop psice balance, maybe missing that tad extra.
