SledgeJr (2957), Omaha, Nebraska, USA Jan 21, 2006 On tap at the brewpub. This beer is the color of a harvest moon. Has a cloudy reddish brown/ orange appearance and a white head. The aroma is very spicy: pumpkin pie spices abound (nutmeg, clove, cinnamon). The flavor is very sweet like a chocolate malted. The pie spices are as discernable in flavor as they are in aroma. I taste coriander or orange peel, but I’m not sure it’s in this. The beer has no odd residual spice flavors. It has a great smooth tongue-pleasing aftertaste. It’s not quite as balanced as O’Fallon pumpkin, but the spices are definitely a treat and not underdone. Adam the Brewer adds 2.5 lbs. of pumpkin pie spice to this 14 barrel concoction. He also uses canned pumpkin pie pack and the same White Labs Belgian yeast as he uses for the Brown ale.
