fordest (1954), Santee/San Diego, California, USA Dec 13, 2007 From a Growler at Logan’s Pre-GABF party. Nice dark pour. Aromas of smoke and weak coffee. Flavors were a bit of a let down though. The smoke was almost absent, and the burnt malt flavor classic to a good porter just seemed to be missing....

Those were my notes when I was under the impression that this was Smoked Porter. I knew that smoked flavor just wasn’t there. No burnt malt either. Roasted malt yes. Dang, wish I had tasted this without thinking I knew what it was. Now somebody has to send me a growler so that I can be fair about it. In the absence of that, I will give it about what seems right. SledgeJr (2957), Omaha, Nebraska, USA Apr 3, 2004 On tap at the brewpub. A very black ale with a creamy brown head (although bubbles were a little large). Coffee nutty aroma. Syrupy sweet roasted blend up front. A pleasant early smoothness. The midpalate is strong with the same malty roasted flavor. The aftertaste lingers and is strong throughout. A very good stout.
