24.1/5.03.49/5.0-0English pint

Commercial Description:
A heavy and complex bittersweet stout with fine chocolate and coffee flavors but not enough to hinder the oatmeal added for body and also flavor. To make it complete, we use the finest English floor malted, roasted barley and black malts. Not for the weak and weary!

From a Growler at Logan’s Pre-GABF party. Nice dark pour. Aromas of smoke and weak coffee. Flavors were a bit of a let down though. The smoke was almost absent, and the burnt malt flavor classic to a good porter just seemed to be missing.... -------------- Those were my notes when I was under the impression that this was Smoked Porter. I knew that smoked flavor just wasn’t there. No burnt malt either. Roasted malt yes. Dang, wish I had tasted this without thinking I knew what it was. Now somebody has to send me a growler so that I can be fair about it. In the absence of that, I will give it about what seems right.

On tap at the brewpub. A very black ale with a creamy brown head (although bubbles were a little large). Coffee nutty aroma. Syrupy sweet roasted blend up front. A pleasant early smoothness. The midpalate is strong with the same malty roasted flavor. The aftertaste lingers and is strong throughout. A very good stout.
