Commercial Description:
Englantilaistyylinen Brown Ale, jossa erikoisuutena on käytetty Mokkamestareiden Bahia Espresso -kahvipapusekoitusta. Meripihkan punainen, maultaan pehmeä Plevnan uutuusolut, jossa maistuu aavistus kahvimaista paahtuneisuutta. Tämän tyyliset oluet, joissa on käytetty kahvia lisämausteena saivat suuren suosion Englannissa muutama vuosi sitten. Oluen nimi tulee jälleen kerran Finlaysonin historiasta: Finlaysonin alueella toimi pieni sähköveturi nimeltään Pikku-Pässi erilaisissa kuljetustehtävissä vuosina 1909 – 1957. * Kv 12 % * Kkatkerot 30 * Humala E. K Goldings

Translation of description: English style Brown Ale with Bahia Espresso coffee bean mix from Mokkamestarit as a specialty ingredient. Amber coloured, soft-flavoured new beer from Plevna with a hint of coffee-like roastiness. This style of beer, with coffee as an added ingredient, gained wide popularity some years ago in England. The name of this beer, like several of our other offerings, stems from the history of Finlayson: a small electric locomotive named Pikku-Pässi (“little ram”) served in various transportation duties in the Finlayson district between the years 1909-1957. Gravity 12%, EBU 30, Hops E.K. Goldings.

From tap, pours a clear and dark gold colour with a lasting, creamy, light tan head. Spicy, dark aroma like scratchy wool socks and tangled forest under brush. Toffee and hay come through with force, perhaps with some cocoa in the background. I didn’t know about the use of coffee in the beer and it struck me momentarily as a mild component, nothing more. It’s probable that the cocoa flavour was imparted from the use of coffee as well, thus summing to a more substantial level. A thin note of tangy walnuts comes though, but otherwise I find the whole affair a bit light on the malt; not that the hops are overbearing by any means. Balanced, but a touch softer than is my preference. Just under a moderate sweetness to start along with a scratchy, woollen sensation. The sweetness decays quickly leaving a spicy and leafy finish of average duration. Medium bodied with a watery texture and prickly carbonation. A bit scratchy overall and I’d have enjoyed a more robust malt profile, while keeping the alcohol at the same level.

Dark copper, thick off-white head. Nose is sweet espresso, light smoke and chocolate. Flavor has some malts, hops and dry coffee beans. Somehow a bit mineral. Light bodied, watery palate. Needs more body, this way unbalanced.

Copper brown color, small off-white color. Toffeish and perfumic sweet-malty aroma. Chocolate, tobacco, rye and some sweetish notes in the flavor. Sweet aftertaste. Very unique brown ale.
